Okay, so I have gotten into this "natural" kick.

i'm thinking about going back to vegetarian (i could never give up dairy or eggs) because I generally felt better while I was not eating meat. Anyone else vegetarian? If so how do you do vegetarian AND gluten free? MY seizures started shortly after going back to eating meat. So there is one of many theories there on how they started (also a head injury at nine, family history, depo needle birthcontrol, drug use and others)

So I started small and went gluten free. I still cheat every now and then. (shh!) but genereally stick to it. So I also decided what else in my life can I change. So I went searching...

I buy my cleaning products from norwex now (www.norwex.com) which is natural cleaning products to help eliminate toxins and bacteria etc. They have everything from toothbrushes to lint brushes to widnex and vegetable cleaner. and the sizes are huge and are meant to last a year (1 drop of vegetable cleaner in water in a bowl of water can kill bacteria off your veggies for a week)

I buy makeup from 100% Pure (www.100percentpure.com) which is paraben free, gluten free, chemical free makeup. the majority is even mineral free as they use (and have a patent on) fruit and veggie pigmented makeup. Its considered organic and is even safe to eat. Some stuff (like the honey scrub) actually tastes great! (you get it on your lips while washing and it tastes like honey because it is honey)

and I have boughten flouride free, glycerin free toothpaste (well its actually a powder as I couldnt find the paste in my local health food stores and online places didnt ship to canada) and I have used it for a week. Already I have NO MORE tooth sensitivity. And I used to brush with sensodyne before. plus, I can already see my teeth getting whiter and the enamel getting less "see thorugh" at the bottoms of my front teeth. The stuff I use is called Eco-Dent.

Flouride is a poison, so thats why I use only bottle water (my city adds flouride to the water) and there was even a story I read about a little boy at the dentist who had flouride trays, then the dentist gave him water to rinse and spit. Instead he drank it and within hours he was dead. Glycerin coats your teeth and takes 25+ rinses to remove it. People think thats great because things like sugar etc cant stick to your teeth. but it also stops your teeth from re-mineralizing and puts your mouths PH balance off. this causes things like thining of the enamel, tooth sensitivity and softer teeth.

So I was wondering (dont want to start a conspiracy) if its possible that flouride in the water could cause seizures due to allergic reaction. I have the urge to drink nothing but tap water for a month and see how much my seizures go up. then go back to bottle water.

I have a water cooler in my dining room & for months never touched tap water but it made no difference in my seizures at all.

Here in MD they require you to give fluoride drops to babies if you are on well water which does not have fluoride in it. I never gave the drops to my daughter when she was a baby and it she didn't get her first tooth until she was over a year old...lol.. so thinking that had something to do with it I gave it to my Son and now he has seizures.. Hmmm... It's a very interesting theory!

Nah, teeth happen at different times for evryone. Just think. Flouride wasn't put into water during caveman times, and they had teeth hard enough to chomp through raw meat, cartlidge etc.

Babies grew teeth just fine 100 years ago without flouride, so why try to force it on people when there is evidence its a poison and does your mouth more harm than good?

You also have to remember that back then cavemen only lived to be about 30-40 years old. We do have more sugars that eat away at our teeth but we also have them for much longer.

Hi, Rae,

Wow. Lots to comment on. <grin>

I'm a strict vegetarian. Nothing that has a face or a nervous system. I'm vegan at home. Will eat eggs and dairy on the road, otherwise I'd starve.

I don't eat gluten-free. But it's easy enough to get protein from legumes, nuts, and seeds. And love that Quinoa. And if you eat soy, there is tofu, and there are a lot of great soy protein poweders. One smoothie and your good for half your protein for the day.

On water: I'm on well water, with a super-filter under my sink. It's supposed to remove 99.99% of everything. I take minerals to make up for it. My mom gave me flouride drops in my milk as a kid, and I thank her for it. I've only had 1 cavity in my life. Flouride in the water couldn't be a factor for my seizures now, though. It's a huge issue for lots of people. Like transplant patients. So I could imagine it could effect siezures, too.

Excess of ANYTHING is a poison. Correct amounts are everything.

Teeth... my enamal is thinning, and the AED's are doing a number on my teeth. So on advice from my dentist I avoid tooth powder. Some are too abrasive (but so are some pastes!). I use a special toothpaste by prescription from my dentist to protect my teeth from further erosion - super high in... you guessed it.... flouride! You bet I don't swallow the stuff.

Glycerine can make teeth super-sensitive. If by chance some silly company puts glycerine in their toothpaste, it can actually make teeth more sensitive!

I don't buy cleaning products. I use vinnegar, Dr. Bronner's, bon ami, microfiber pads, and a steamer. That's more than I need! Laundry soap I use seventh generation. It's also HE, so it's okay with my washer. I don't use cleaners on my veggies. They are organic so no chemicals, so I just rinse well to get any bacteria off. I'm cooking most of it, anyway.

Makeup, I use bare esscentuals. Not perfect, but pretty darn good.

The one product I still go mainstream with is hair color. For awhile I was using a veggie-based dye with no chemicals from the health food store, but it really didn't cover the gray, and the color just didn't look right for my skin color. Henna isn't enough, either. So I dump poison on my head every month or so.

My surroundings are pretty chemically-free, too. I have hardwood floors with a special finish. My carpets are wool. My furniture is solid wood - no particle board or plywood (formaldehyde). When I painted it was with natural non-tox paint from my corner hardware store. Nothing in my house has artificial fragrances or perfumes in it. I only use vegetarian glycerine soap.

Sheesh. No wonder I've been single again so long. My house and lifestyle may be non-toxic, but looking at it from the outside, I wouldn't want live with me (and all that!), either. :roflmao:

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, Rae. I don't think there is evidence that fluoride does your mouth more harm than good.

My brother works as an environmental advocate for clean water policies in the U.S., and is very familiar with the science. He says it's unfortunate that fluoride has developed the reputation of being a toxin. Like just about anything, it can be toxic in extremely large amounts. There have been a few instances where municipal water systems were accidentally over-fluoridated (by enormous amounts), and the results in those cases were nausea and vomiting.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention listed water fluoridation as one of the ten great public health achievements of the 20th century. It can make a real difference in cavity reduction, especially in communities without access to regular dental check-ups or toothpaste. But it's also the case that most of Europe doesn't use fluoridated water -- in part because they DO use fluoride toothpastes and rinses.

I think fluoride is important, but it's quite possible that if you're an adult who brushes regularly with a fluoride toothpaste, you don't need fluoride in your water. But... you won't be over-fluoridated if you still drink tap water.

If going fluoride-free works for you Rae, more power to you. It's possible that you have an allergy or sensitivity to fluoride, or to other additives in your tap-water. Lord knows we are all exposed to more chemicals in our environment and consumer products than ever before. (BTW, I think it's great that you are going vegetarian. I have a 14-year old niece who became vegan a few years ago, despite her love of bacon. She also opts for vegan sunscreen and other similarly paraben-free products.)

Those cosmetics sound awesome! I read some of the ingredients and none of what I read contained glycerine, which clogs my pores like nobody's business.

I just need to see if I can get the products through the health food stores, because I'm anti-online shopping. I like seeing first-hand what I'm buying. It makes life harder sometimes :(
