Good point- about the estrogen now possibly over-riding the progesterone-
but I'm still not completely sure of which type of epilepsy I have-
I have been seeing a neurologist at Stanford, who specializes in female epilepsy, but when I brought in the evidence of my seizures being related to my monthly cycling (or lacking thereof now that I'm in menopause) she didn't mention menopausal catamenial seizures as being a cause- instead she said that these were petit mal. I'm with you that they must be catamenial and I'll bring this up with my Docter next visit (and maybe need to change Doctors!) Thanks for your advice.

Sounds like your Dr. is wise to slowly increase it to see what you actually need.

I'm not being tapered on for the purpose of finding the lowest needed dose, I'm being tapered on because apparently Lamotrigine can have awful side effects and allergic reactions if not tapered properly. I'm just unsure of what dose I"m eventually headed for as it's not on my prescription information

They can be petit mal (absence) seizures AND be catamenial -- catamenial just refers to the seizure trigger, not to the kind of seizure itself.
