Hi,I was diagnosed 3 years ago(aged 33) and while I haven't had a complex partial seizure for nearly 2 years (yeah!!!!) I can still have simple partial seizures a few times a week.these drive me insane.they leave me tired, sad and emotion.I hear voices, music, have extreme feelings of doom and sadness, everything around me rushes.I hate it.I am constantly on edge worrying that a bigger seizure is going to follow and that I'm going to wet myself or worse.I started on tegretol but I had heaps of side effects and seizures so we added keppra. That didn't work so we took the tegretol away and just tried keppra.Keppra made me really angry and I continued to have seizures so now I'm just on topamax.I haven't had any seizures but my auras are out of control.****My problem on all 3 drugs seems to be that I feel great for the first couple of months and then my body gets used of them and the auras start again so we put the dosage up and I feel good again for a few months then they start again.its like this horrible cycle!!!! Does anybody else have this happen to them??? I'm off to the neuro tomorrow and I think he's going to add another med as I've reached my limit with the topamax so I'll have to wait and see.

Oh my God Kirsty, I'm the same except it's after 4 months with me, I've gone through so many medications my poor neurologist is left scratching his head. I'm sorry to hear about you though glad that I'm not alone in this either.

My 7 year old started on Trileptal, became allergic after 10 days, then was put on Topamax. Her aura's were out of control as well. The Neuro has her on Topamax and Keppra. The Keppra makes her mad/sad, but she is getting used to it. She is still having a handful of aura's on the Keppra. One good thing about Topamax is that it does control the seizures, but I feel like it does bring along more aura's. Does that make sense?

Hi Kristy.

I've had epilepsy for 9 years now (I'm 36), and it took quite a few years of different meds and dosages before we found ones that work pretty good for me. I've lost track of how many different ones I've been on.

I still have seizures but in the start I was having 2 or 3 a week, and they were pretty bad ones. Now I have around 5 a month and they usually aren't too bad. I still black out during some of them but they are nothing like they were before.

In addition to taking meds I have a VNS implant that has helped alot with the seizures (not sure if you know what that it). Now if I feel a seizure coming on I can use it to stop the seizure or if I'm having a seizure someone can use it on me and I'll come out of it faster.

Unfortunately the first meds that you are put on may not work perfectly for you. Sometimes it takes a little try and fail to find the right thing.

Auras are seizures. Simple Partial seizures.
