I have my First MRI (Head) this evening! As always I am nervous and Cant think of anything else before.

I am hoping I can wear my own clothes! It may make it a easier process and I would be more comfortable. Just trying to organise some Gym clothes. They are normally metal free!

If not a gown isnt too bad I guess.

Let you all know how it goes.
 
I'm sure you'll be fine :)

It should have told you what/not to wear etc in your appointment letter. I usually get some nhs pyjama-type things, not brilliant but at least they preserve your modesty more than a gown lol

Fingers crossed for you... MRIs can be kinda long (hour or close) but I have learned to just keep the head as still as possible and they won't have to redo a part of the MRI. Good luck.
 
BEST OF LUCK!!!!!

and try not to wear any makeup, as some of them have metal in them (eyeshadows etc.).
 
I only wear NO7 foundation. I don't wear Eye shadow etc unless I'm seeing friends. Thankyou!
 
Thankyou. It only took 15/20 minutes. I could not wait for it to end. I was able to wear my own clothes so I was more worried whilst the machine was on about whether I'd left anything metal on me as it vibrates and moves about.

The machine is very strange, loud and I just could not wait for it to be over. I am not scared of small spaces but it does make you really nervous and I could not really think of anything else except counting the time go by!

Glad that its over now and I can look forward to christmas!!

You should've been asked if you had anything with metal on, even if you had an underwire bra on they'd ask you to remove that.

Yes the machines are very loud, they usually give you ear plug or ear phones to help drain out the noise.
They are also fairly boring, I found that sometimes I felt like the time was dragging on lol. I also found when I had an MRI I would nearly always get an itch eg - itchy head & had to ignore it because I couldn't move lol.

Hi,

Yeah I had all the headphones and suffocating head gear that made me feel like a Cyberman!!

I did not have an underwire bra just a sports bra but it had plastic fastenings (I think) any way it wasnt a problem

but the machine does make you feel slightly odd which is why I could not wait for it to be over! However atleast the noises change throughout. If it was just one buzz then it would be even more annoying. At times it sounded as if there was a woodpecker near by

The Tech guy was Asian and very professional, focused on the computer. I did confirm with him that I would hear from my doctor or contact him for the results. He just said yes and I left.

Obviously not friendly at work then :ponder:

My biggest complaint about MRIs where I get them is that it doesn't matter if you dressed without a speck of metal you have to wear their one size fits all gowns and bottoms, and when you're small like me it almost compares to dressing in Mom's pants and rain-coat like you did when you were 4 years old LOL! :roflmao:

Anyway, best of luck and I hope the MRI is helpful in your diagnosis without it being anything serious!
