It has been a while since I posted, and I am happy to say that my son is doing well. He went 14 weeks without a seizure, which is the longest we have ever been. Last week he had a night of seizure of activity, it turns out his levels dropped as a result of growth and increased metabolism, so now we upped the meds and hoping for the best!
The reason I am posting however is because of my daughter, not currently diagnosed with Epilepsy. I have seem some weird things from her in the past, reminds me of my son's partial seizures but I have no real proof of anything. What is concerning me now is her terrible mood swings and irrational behavior. It seems odd to say this because she is three and at the height of irrational behavior but she is my third child, I teach kids all year and work at a summer camp in the summer, I know how three year olds should act and this isn't it. My son was also a very difficult and irrational child, never would I have guessed he would have frontal lobe epilepsy, i.e. have impaired ability to control frustration and impulse. Now that I know it exists I am worried and wonder if I need to purse a work up on my daughter. My son was not diagnosed until he was 7.5, he is now almost 10. Could he have had epilepsy at 3, just not manifests as it currently does? Does my daughter have epilepsy too? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Hi, My youngest is still being diagnosed as to what it going on with him. First rushed to the ED at 7 1/2 months old with clusters of seizures overnight. But now I am pretty sure he had them from almost birth. He's 30 months old and still confusing Dr's. He's on seizure meds which are helping and his Dr's say we know he has what look like seizures but we are not sure if he has epilepsy. They have found he has a brain lesion which they said may or may not have anything to do with his seizures.
What we are doing is keeping a diary of days. Not just a seizure diary but of everyday. We have colour coded it to help easily see what his month has been like. White(no colour) means he had a great day at home and child care, Yellow means either NQR (Could be unusual mood or seizure) at home or at child care and Red means NQR at both child care and home or something really concerning. He also has really strange mood swings, he is my 3rd child and I just know he is different. They are not your usual toddler mood swings. His paed actually witnessed them in her office during one of his appointments and she said to me its almost like he's having an "emotional seizure" I said we thought it was just a different form of tantrum and she assured me she felt it was definitely not a tantrum. She said keep track of it and lets see what comes of it. We have videoed a few of his NQR periods which we show his specialists and all so far have agreed they don't feel it is normal.
Well done for your son going 14 weeks seizure free that's amazing! A bad night here and there I suppose are to be expected.
We are excited that our little man seems to be having more and more great days, still no more than 3 or 4 in a row but even that is amazing to us.
If you are worried get it looked into.
Take Care
Donna
