I'd appreciate it if anyone has a recommendation for a good disability attorney in Atlanta. I have recently applied for disability and am getting the runaround. I do not have the energy or patience for this bull----. They are really pissing me off and I have been in a lot of pain, lately. Epilepsy is not my only health issue.

Thank you. I’ll check out the ones that are in my area. Do you know if we are supposed to wait until after we’re denied to go to an attorney?

The info below is from https://www.disabilitysecrets.com/assistance.html (where you can go for more details and info)

Statistically, the vast majority of Social Security Disability (SSDI/SSD) and SSI claims are denied at the initial claim and reconsideration levels, whether or not a disability claimant (applicant) is represented by an attorney or non-attorney disability advocate. (When we asked readers recently, we found that 28% of those who hired a lawyer to help them fill out the initial application were approved compared to 20% of those who didn't.)

For this reason, most SSDI and SSI claims will need to go to a hearing in front of an administrative law judge (ALJ) before a claimant can hope to receive disability benefits. It is at the level of an ALJ hearing that having a disability attorney or non-attorney representative, a.k.a. a disability advocate, can really help win a claim. While a disability attorney or non-attorney representative can't guarantee that a claimant will be awarded Social Security Disability or SSI benefits, a Social Security lawyer can guarantee that a case will be properly "developed" prior to a hearing date.

I knew it was going to be difficult before I applied. That is why I've been putting it off. But, I realized I couldn't put it off any longer. I applied in early May and have been doing all the paperwork they send me. But, they give me a bunch of BS and aggravate me. I got as many medical records as I could get before my appointment and brought them with me, which seems like a waste because they are just requesting all the records from all my doctors and hospitals directly now. The disability adjudicator assigned to make the decision on whether I qualify for disability tells me she has not received records. Doctors offices tell me they sent or didn't even receive the request. I am just getting the runaround. The disability adjudicator is telling me if she doesn't receive the records they will send me to their doctors. The whole thing is ridiculous and aggravating and frustrating. I tried to give her the direct number for who to talk to at one of my doctor's offices and she doesn't even want it. It's like she doesn't want to be bothered. It's her job! She tells me she knows who I am b/c I spoke to her yesterday and then I realize she thinks I'm someone else. These people are probably given more cases then they can even handle. That's how it is in government jobs. I may need to call her supervisor if that even does any good. I don't know if I should talk to a lawyer now or wait until after I am denied. The whole thing is absurd. I should add I have a number of health problems so I see different specialists.

BIGMAN,

Thank you for the advice, but I would hire an attorney if I go that route and I would want someone who specializes in disability. You don't even pay anything unless you win.

Hi Music36,

If you go on line and type in avvo.com and log in and ask the question about finding a lawyer in your area you may have a chance of lawyers responding back to you that would
be willing to help you out. I often use this website to ask legal questions and many lawyers come back to me and there's no fee. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue

Thank you, but I wanted to know if anyone knew of someone specific to recommend in Atlanta. I know how to search for attorneys.
