Hi Everyone, I have had Complex Parcial Seizures now for 6 years after a bash to the head, I am now 49years young. I have been on medication for about 2-3 years, because of the hairloss I had experienced, I stopped medication again 1 year ago.
I have recently seen a new Neurologist who wants me to start back on medication, Lamictal (he said hairloss is not a side affect with this drug).
I have been researching for the last three months the Neurofeedback therapy which seems to be quite well known in America. I am having trouble finding a therapist here in Brisbane Australia, I have found an optomotrist who uses Neurofeedback but she specialises in optometric rehabilitation, her interest is people with vision disfunction from stroke or ADD just to mention a few. She does not specialise in Epilepsy.
What I am trying to find out is, is there a 100% cure of seisures with this Neurofeedback therapy? They have also mentioned the LENS technique, which is something new to me, I will have to look this up.
I have just finished the book The Brain That Changes Itself, I will have to get "The Healing Power of Neurofeedback" which was mentioned also.
It would be great to get some feedback as I need to get a life back and get back to driving, so I may have to get back to medication.
It does not look like there is much happening in Australia with Neurfeedback Therapists.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

It's nice

to meet you Laura.

And your neuro, sad to say, is mistaken about the hair loss, as many of us here suffer from that particular issue as a side effect of Lamictal, myself included.

I don't know that there's a 100% cure for anything to be truthful with you. OK, with tonsils and the appendix, stuff like that, yes......but seizures.....that's an iffy thing.

You'll find plenty of information--and it sounds as if you're finding it--here at CWE about all aspects of E, including NF. Feel free to poke around in all the nooks and crannies.

Welcome!

Thank you for that Meetz, not that I wanted to hear the truth about hair loss. What do you do, I stopped medication for 1 year and now my hair is back to normal I am going to have to try another drug.
I lost hair with Epilum, then stopped, I was tired on Kepra, so stopped. Then I was on Tegretol and topamax for nearly 2 years,it was ok until I uped the dose (because of an absence) by 100ml a day and thats when it all started to fall out. I went back to my normal dose within a few weeks but my hair kept falling over a 6 month period so it was my hair or my license. Now its my licencse I want back too. It is so depressing.
The doctors etc do not know much about Nerofeedback therapy in Australia, let alone trying to find a therapist.
Thanks Laura

Hi Laura and Welcome!!

I have only had experience with Keppra, and have not had a problem with hair loss, but since we are all different, it may take more time to find one you don't have that reaction with. I have not tried Neuro feed back, but I wish you the best of luck.:hello:

Thank you and what a beautiful dog, I once had a white German Shepard, I love animals.

Hi Laura, welcome to the forum. :hello:

No guarantees on neurofeedback offering 100% seizure "cure", but it can help reduce a dependence on drugs.

You can try searching for a practitioner in directories offered on the following web sites:

http://www.isnr.org/cart/pract_find...alia&member_section=&degree=&theSearch=Search

http://www.aapb.org/ or http://www.bcia.org/ (looks like the same directory)

H Laura, welcome!

I think there was one other Aussie member who was trying neurofeedback. I'll see if I can track down his info to find out where he's located.

Best,
Nakamova

Hi Nakamova, thank you so much for that I dont seem to be able to find much happening here in Australia. I phoned Epilepsy Australia to see if they had heard of anyone doing this therapy in Brisbane or even Sydney but I did not get too far. From the replys from America its seems Neurotherapy on its own is not 100% guaranteed to cure the seisures.
Thanks Again

Laura

My daughter did neurofeedback for about a year. At the same time we made major nutritional changes, and added supplements for brain and body health.

We have seen major improvements in seizure control. She is med free, and has gone as long as 8 months seizure free.

Working still to improve nutrition, tweaking here and there.

I believe neurofeedback has been a part of the improvement we are seeing.

Hi, Laura.

Try Terry Eichmann, a psychologist in Brisbane. He is---or was--- president of ISNR in Australia, the primary professional organization. He's a very nice, gentle man. I'm sure he will be honest about his experience with epilepsy. You can contact me for his e-mail

Be well.

Hi Jean,
Hope you recieved your private message through this site with my phone numbers. I sent my phone numbers to you through this site, but part of the message was wiped by Talk Epilepsy for privacy reasons it is not allowed.
They obviously have a good reason for them to be looking after peoples privacy.
I thought you may have wanted to have a chat about this Nft.

Hope to be in touch again soon

Thanks Laura
