Neurologist upping meds.

The last week and a half have been hell on me. A week ago Sunday I had a simple partial seizure that turned into a complex partial seizure in the Walmart Parking lot during a blizzard. Thankfully my daughter and her parner were able to find me as they were in the parking lot looking for me at the time (we were on the phone together at the time). Then I had @ Partial Saturdays this weekend and a partial sunday. I have no Idea what else if anything happened this lat couple weeks all I know is I hurt so much.

My nuero has done blood test and my lamictal is low so he is upping it from 200mgs 2xs daily to 300mgs 2xs daily. He is also upping my Topamax from 100mgs 2xs daily to 200mgs 2xsdaily and I will stay on trileptal 450 2xs daily. I hope this works as nothing has yet. I have right temporal lobe epilepsy. Its caused by a stroke I had almost 2 years ago. It started almost a month after.

My nueros nurse started to talk to me about my mri by accident over the phone a few weeks ago about my left tempolar lobe having something wrong too and caught herself and said dr. would talk to me next month. So has left me wondering as stroke was on rt. side. onder:

Since the stroke was on your right side, what the nurse probably meant is that your seizures are actually starting on the left side as that is how the brain operates. The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body. I have left temporal lobe epilepsy and the right side of my body is effected.

The brain is an extremely complex organ that controls various body functions. If a stroke occurs and blood flow can't reach the region that controls a particular body function, that part of the body won't work as it should.

If the stroke occurs toward the back of the brain, for instance, it's likely that some disability involving vision will result. The effects of a stroke depend primarily on the location of the obstruction and the extent of brain tissue affected.

Right Brain

The effects of a stroke depend on several factors, including the location of the obstruction and how much brain tissue is affected. However, because one side of the brain controls the opposite side of the body, a stroke affecting one side will result in neurological complications on the side of the body it affects. For example, if the stroke occurs in the brain's right side, the left side of the body (and the left side of the face) will be affected, which could produce any or all of the following:

Paralysis on the left side of the body
Vision problems
Quick, inquisitive behavioral style
Memory loss

Left Brain
If the stroke occurs in the left side of the brain, the right side of the body will be affected, producing some or all of the following:

Paralysis on the right side of the body
Speech/language problems
Slow, cautious behavioral style
Memory loss

Brain Stem
When stroke occurs in the brain stem, depending on the severity of the injury, it can affect both sides of the body and may leave someone in a ‘locked-in’ state. When a locked-in state occurs, the patient is generally unable to speak or achieve any movement below the neck.

My father had a stroke a number of years ago and it was on his left side. He now has language/speech/aphasia + memory problems. Some of the same problems I have.

I tried to explain that to her about the stroke and she just seemed all confused. I wonder if she was just having a bad day and that why she just stopped talking to me. lol Maybe she is not used to patients knowing as much as I did when I talked to her We need to be proactive though.

I have been lucky that I have basically recovered well from my stroke with only some weekness from my knee down on my left leg which will leave me with a little bit of a drop foot if tired and the seizures. It could be worse though!

:agree: We do need to be proactive! And I am glad to hear that you are. It may be that you do know more than your dr. wanted you to know. Some docs seem to be intimidated by well informed patients, but we are our own advocates.

If she no longer wants to communicate, then time to find a new dr.

It was the nurse that I was talking to on the phone. The last time I saw the Dr. he was with me for a little over an hour. He is an older man. I just started going to him. Very well recommended. He did mention that if he could not get my seizures under control (he knew they alreay hadn't been) he was going to recommend me to the "big"city To an epilioligist to have a specialist decide what needs to be done. For now I an going here though because this is where my case manager takes me as I cant drive and I live in a little town of 1,200. When I am recommended to the other , the HAVE to take me there. That's the GOVT. At least Im not alone. I shouldn't complain!
