I am a mother also and I know how hard it is to adjust to new medication while trying to take care of your children and day to day life. It is always hard to start a new seizure medication. It is always easier to give up than to push through the side effects. I have been battle seizures for 16 years. The previously used medications were a lot harsher than the new ones out today. I have never found a medication to control my seizures, so I have been off and on many different kinds. When I lost my lisence I went through a depression period. I felt worthless and had to rely on others to take me everywhere. I am unable to work due to the severity and unpredictablility of my seizures. My best advice to you is to stay strong, and do not be afraid to tell your doctor that you want to try a different medication. Most people are afraid to tell doctors things, but remember you are paying them- they work for you. I sought out Therapy to cope with my feelings and it was the best thing I ever did. I learned many things about myself and how strong I truly am. Good Luck to you : )

welcome

I'm new as well, I have had seizures since the age of 3 1/2. My seizures during my childhood were challenging but as an adult now 44 years old they have changed from grandmal to complex partial seizures. I have had surgery on the left temporal lobe and they remove the amydulla and part of the hippoccampus on Sept.2009. Things were fine I had a few seizures but was seizure free until august 2011. I'm presently not working because seizures came back and I'm also experiencing violent headaches.
I understand it isn't easy to be able to focus on the things you need to do for the day. I have been on all sort of medication from phenobarb, tegretol, valproic acid, neurontin as a child. I'm still on phenobarb and neurontin and I presently take dilatin. Before my surgery they tried putting me on Lamictal, Keppra; I reacted severely to both meds. Then they put me on dilantin.
I hope you can find an answers or a lower dosage to help you function throughtout the day and be seizure-free. My thoughts are with you. Sometimes you just need to ask alot of questions to your doctor because otherwise the answers you want to know may not get answered. Just keep me updated on how you are doing.
