Hi, My name is Jules. Is great that such a wonderful place is available such as this. I do not know what ppl did before the internet lol.

I do not know much about Epilepsy at all. A friend of mine is having a baby and she is no longer with the father, they do not even speak My friend hears from others and from what she sees online that the family ...has epilepsy and very often they are going into the hospital. Is this a common thing? I know one family member is going to a Major hospital several states away and that persons sister post alot about how she has been fighting this since she was born. I believe 4 people in the family have epilepsy and from the sounds of it they have alot of complications. I am sorry but I do not know much about this. Is it common for it to run in the family? Are hospital visits common? Is there a high chance of my friends baby having epilepsy? I appreciate anything you can share with me!

I hope I posted this in the correct place. Thanks again, Jules

Hi Jules, welcome to CWE!

Epilepsy can be hereditary, but it can be hard to predict how it will play out in any given child. There are many different kinds of epilepsy (over 40 different classifications of seizure disorders), and the symptoms and treatment can be very individualized. Some people respond to medication right away, others may need to try many meds. I'd like to reassure you about your friend, but with epilepsy it can be tough to predict what may or may not happen. I hope things go well for your friend and her baby, and recommend that she check in with her doctor with any concerns.

Thanks

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it. I will pass on the info. she is very nervous about this which is understandable. I told her it might help if she goes to some msg boards or reads up on it some but I think she wants to know but at the same time wants to keep her distance with it as to not think about it to much. I don't know. I have always been one who thinks knowledge is power. Thanks again :)
