There was a study in the Netherlands where children with celiac disease had an EEG and when they were given gluten they had an abnormal EEG. Celiac disease is also a known cause of seizure disorders.

Blood sugar disorders can cause hormonal imbalance. Medication can also contribute to the hormonal imbalance when the liver is congested. Many are helped when they clean up the inner environment.

I share this because it is the only reason we have seen a reduction in seizures with my daughter.

How do you know if it is medication, hormonal imbalance or if it were a disease? This is so new to me. My doctor seems only interested in finding a medication which will give me a normal EEG.

I am going to a neurologist. I am cosidering going to a seizure specialist.

There are some people on the board who are from Georgia. Why don't you ask if anyone can recommend a good epileptologist near wherever it is you live. I do remember that one person had a bad experience at Emory.

The only way I knew was by trial and error. By making notes of what was occurring and when. I use a blank calendar page that I can print out from my computer. I have three years + in a notebook and I can look back to see patterns.

I also began making nutritional changes early on. I did wonder how I would know whether it was medication or changing diet but I really didn't care as long as the seizures were reduced. It wasn't until I was able to reduce the medication that I knew that the meds were actually causing many more seizures than not.

You will find that conventional doctors will not suggest alternatives to you. In fact at the ER, they still provide juice that has High Fructose Corn Syrup and when asked for wheat free dairy free food items, I was asked by the ER doctor, "So what else is there to eat?" One must advocate for their own health and have knowledge to stand up to some of this ignorance.

There are even people here on this site that believe that meds are the only way. So it is a matter of figuring out what is best for you, and following with your instincts. Being brave to stand up to those that think you are wrong about your own care, (or in my case my daughters) and show them proof about how you are being proactive. All they provide are drugs and many times those will cause you increasing health problems over time.

Show your doctor that there is adequate research about Celiac disease.
Figure out your triggers and research and research some more to narrow down what is going on. Keep digging and asking WHY.

One of my problems is, I don't know when I have a seizure and neither does my husband. The only way I know I am having them is the EEG says so. My doctor keeps changeing my meds because I am still having them. I really do need to find me a different doctor. I just started a new job and hate to ask off so many times.

Phylis, that is a good idea. Jackie, you can start a topic, Who is from Georgia?

Belinda has real bad seizures. I would not be surprised if she is in a hospital. Start that topic and you will find a lot of members from Georgia.
