hello. just been diagnosed because i had a seizure at work last week however i had one about 20 years ago. I did all the tests and nothing was found the first time. This time I have a theor it was because I take a whole lot of doxylamine and the night before i had none and also stayed up the whole night. About 2 hours into work (desk job) I had a seizure. I'm thinking because of withdrawal???

Hi Danielle, welcome!

According to a google search: "Symptoms of doxylamine overdose may include dry mouth, dilated pupils, insomnia, night terrors, euphoria, hallucinations, seizures...”

So you may have taken too much, and that could have been a factor in provoking your seizure. It could also be in combination with other factors -- fatigue (as you mention), dehydration, infection, low blood sugar, stress -- a number of things can play a role in tipping someone over the seizure threshold.

Did you go to the ER after this most recent seizure? Were you prescribed meds or given a referral to a neurologist?

Yes they took me to the ER. they did a ct scan and eeg, ekg, blood test the whole nine. they actually told me to go home and as i was getting dressed i either just fainted or seized (idk cause no one was in the room with me). They found me uncounsious on the floor. My head, neck, thighs were aching so im thinking i did have another seizure which is frightening, 2 in one day after 20 years of nothing. They put me on Topamax 25 to start but eventually 100mg. Im also on ambien and zoloft (for awhile). I will never touch unisom again!

Hi, Danielle,

Usually if it's a generalized seizure they can pick it up on the EEG, at least while it's happening, and often for awhile afterwards. A generalized seizure is one that involves your whole brain, like a tonic-clonic or absence seizure. A partial seizure may or may not show on the EEG. Inbetween seizures, if you haven't had enough of them your brain may not have the permanent changes needed to pick it up on an eeg.

I'm hoping your seizure was drug induced. Just avoiding Unisom would be an easy fix! Your doctor did the right thing to put you on meds. If the seizures are stopped now there's a higher chance that you can go off the meds in a few years and still be seizure-free for life.

Everything is going to be okay. <<<<<big hug>>>>>
