Hi My name is Christine: Just happened upon this site, I have a very supporting family and friends but it always helps to find people who truly understand what I mean and what i'm saying (experience is the best teacher). I was officially diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was 6 I mostly have generalized tonic clonic seizures since the age of 2 or 3. Gained a great deal of control pretty soon after diagnosis until puberty hit so from the age of 12 until about 17 it was a roller coaster of new drugs, multiple drugs, breakthrough seizures, crazy side effects etc. My parents didn't feel comfortable with me driving so that was out of the question (we lived in IL where there are not any specified laws) got my license when I was 21 though (yey!!).....completed undergrad (using a low dose of Dilantin 2X a day) with an occasional seizure maybe once or twice a year. Shortly after completing undergrad had a couple of life altering events occur and my hormones were sent raging and on the path that we're on today-I've tried various medication from phenytoin to tegrtol and even Keppra (which is mostly for partial seizures but i've gotten the best results). I'm having seizures approximately once a week and for some reason (as of the last 6 months) the seizures are lasting longer. Currently in a state of transition looking to move out of state looking for new Doctors and a new job and breaking up with my boyfriend. Im trying to maintain a positive outlook on life (its worth living and thriving). I've received some really good advice from people on this site.
So hello everyone in the foyer and thank you Bernard and Stacy for pulling something like this together!
