Hi, 5 years ago I had my first seizure(grand mal) senior year of high school. After being on depakote for 3 years and an EEG that was "better" my neurologist at the time said if I'd like to try going off meds it was my call. I did, and went ~11 months with no incident. After two nights in a row of not enough sleep I had another g.m. within an hour of waking up the second morning (November 2012). Soo back on meds.
Keppra this time, depakote put me in kind of a fog and made classes a little more difficult. We thought it was working until another two nights in a row with not enough sleep, and another g.m. (We now have a definite trigger for them). This was January last year.
On to another visit with my new neurologist, who is amazing, and a change in meds. In going off of keppra and switching to lamictal, another g.m. My doc took full responsibility for this one saying that he should have prescribe the switch over a longer time period. That was in April last year.
Needless to say there was no driving during this time.
I am happy to say that as of April 24 this year was my one year mark for being seizure free.

It was wonderful discovering this forum where everyone can understand and relate to what others go through. 😊

You are very welcome to CWE, you will find amazing people here who will help and listen to you just as you do the same. Sit back and take a look around, get comfortable.

Howdy, I'm glad that you are doing so well. Definately get enough sleep.

Nice to meet you!

And yes make sure you get enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep is one major seizure trigger for me.

Thank you for the warm reception everyone :)
I look forward to getting to know more people and helping out if I can.

Hey mes2350.

Welcome to CWE. I was diagnosed in high school and was put on Depakote before Keppra. Depakote was a zombie drug for me as well. Not cool.

Congrats on the year and welcome once again.
