I just started a new job that has me in a little room with florescent slightly flickering light. All last week I felt dizzy, had slightly blurred vision and just felt off. I almost felt like if I had a seizure I would feel better bc it just felt like I was on the verge all day. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Fluorescent lights cause me problems too. I have experimented with different kinds. If the light is making a buzzing sound, that can be enough to indicate a slightly malfunctioning light, and the transformer puts out more EMFs. I overground my fluorescent lights, which helps, and I normally run only one bulb (if the fixture functions with one bulb). It puts out a smaller field. I can identify with your feeling, though, of being on the brink of a seizure all day. This feeling does dissipate temporarily if I finally have a seizure, or if I leave the vicintiy of the light. I feel a physical "release" as the electrical energy in the body is finally converted into mechanical energy during a seizure.

I use regular incandescents which don't have transformers (unless the are part of a fan setup). The leads of either the bulb or the fixtue might be slightly oxidized preventling full power from getting through. The argon and mercury in the bulb might be running out of ions when activated by electricity.

All light has become such a problem for me that I have become more nocturnal because of them. Light is simply too biologically activating for me to feel comfortable during the day, or even in a well lit room at night. Shrouded lights work better, and indirect light also works better for me. As long as the light photon does not directly hit the retina, it helps somewhat. I do not like overhead lights.

I feel your pain. I have a hard time if the fluorescent lights are slightly off and/or flickering. If it is just you in your office, could you wear sunglasses? Or bring a lamp of your own and turn off the overhead light when you are working by yourself? Some people (even without E!) are sensitive to lighting so you might be able to approach someone about changing the lighting or putting in a maintanence order without mentioning your simple partials, if they don't know.

:agree: It can't hurt to ask about changing the lighting in the room. Some folks have found that specialized glasses can help too. See http://irlen.com/

Lights like that don't give me seizures but they do give me migraines.

I bet if you spoke up about changing the lights a lot of your co-workers would thank you.

I'm in for a video EEG right now and one of the stressors they use to deliberately induce a seizure is flashing lights in your eyes. You might want to tell your boss that if s/he takes the attitude that "it's all in your head".
