Hello all.

I am so happy to have found this group. It has been a tough week and I know y'all can understand better than anyone.

This week I have lost my driving privileges and started taking Keppra. Neither of which I am very excited about.

Welcome....

We've got lots of people here who don't drive & lots of people here who have (or still do) take keppra.

You're definitely in good company!

Hi Sheri and welcome to the site!

Lots of good stuff here, including information about Keppra. Sorry about the not-driving :( we feel for you...

Best,
Nakamova

Welcome to the site Sheri. This is a great place with a lot of helpful, caring people.

I understand about the no driving. It does suck... I haven't driven regularly for about 8 years now.

Chris

Hi Sheri, this is a great place. It was built on love by Bernard for his wife Stacy. You will like it here.

I am on Keppra and 4 other medicines. I have had epilepsy for 60 years now. When it was time to learn how to drive, I thought is over carefully. At that time, in California, it was legal to drive in CA. I decided not to. I thought, would if I killed myself or someone else in a car accident. I decided to walk and take public transportation instead. Call up your public transportation and ask if they have Dial-A-Ride. That is where you call them and they take you where you want to go. It does not cost much where I live. Ruth

Welcome to this wonderful site.....have peace, you are among friends who have experienced the problems/concerns you have during your journey through epilepsy...

Welcome aboard!

Hi Sheri, welcome to the forum. :hello:

Make yourself at home here. :)

Welcome to the group, it's a great place for support
I started having seizures in Jan of last year. Before I knew what was going on and I was having seizures, I did have them while driving. My complex partials put me on auto pilot and I would have them and kept on driving. Once I got diagnosed and put on Keppra, I have not had one while driving. I was scared of Keppra too, but once I researched all the seizures meds, I decided my neuro put me on the drug with most sucess and less side effects. And honestly, the side effects were only during the first few weeks on the drugs and when my levels were increased.
Do I drive, yes. But I do limit my driving to work and church. I live in Texas too. In Texas, it is illegal for your doctor to report you to DPS. When I have had seizures my doctor gives me the required speech of no driving for 6 months. My license has never been taken away. I know there is a possiblity of having a seizure, but I think the likelihood concerning my seizure history is very low. I have a brother who is on his 3rd pacemaker, he drives. Could he have a heart attack while driving, yes...but doctor feels that is not likely.
I think the driving issue is a personal decision. Since being on Keppra, the few seizures I had were at work (I think it's a light issue, I am photosensitive) and one was nocturnal.
Keep an open mind to the Keppra.

Welcome to CWE, Sheri

I hope you find information here that is useful.

Greetings, Sheri. I hope you'll get some answers for your questions! :D
