Hello, I'm lor. If I have been here before, I don't remember. You see I have epilepsy and in Nov. 2011 I went into status epilepticus (sp) & my heart stopped. My focal point is near the memory thus my memory was damaged. I was in the hospital for one mo. Then in rehab. for two mo. I had to relearn allot (It was like I was a toddler again.). I had to use a walker or hold the hand of the nurse in rehab., I needed help dressing myself, & more ( I could go on but I think you get it). To me the worse this is that I forgot how to write ( not spell). I got a kids 'how to print' book & practiced/relearned (the only time I use cursive is to sign a paper/check cuz it is hard & takes so long to do). This explains why I say I might be new...but maybe you say 'lor has been here'. You likely know me from other epilepsy rooms too. Right now I want to ask about myoclonic jerks, do you get them? I recently restarted pottery and have a wheel. It takes concentration and a steady hand. But in the middle of making a pot I will get jerks thus my finger jerks into the side of my pot and messes it up. Do you think my concentrating and staring at that one thing (the spinning pot), might be a cause of me having more jerks?

Lor welcome back to CWE I can't imagine what it's been like for you and won't.I remember you.I'll just get to know you again.I'm so sorry all this happened to you .I hope the best for you.I've started getting Myoclonic jerks.I don't know what can bring on mine except they happen mainly in crowds that bring on my seizures.

Hi and Welcome Lor.

WOW!! you certainly been through a lot. I can't imagine what is was like ?
I sorry I can't offer you any help on myoclonic jerks. But anyway Welcome !!

This is one of the scariest things I've ever read, I'm so sorry. I'm glad you've recovered so much and I hope you continue, you're very strong.

Hi lor,

Welcome! Or welcome back! Makes no difference which it is, we're glad you found us.

It sounds like you've been through the wringer and back again. Amazing. It's terrific that you are able to do pottery, a bummer that the jerks are making it harder. Just about anything can be a trigger, so the jerks could definitely be related to the spinning motion and concentration. Have you noticed being triggered by similar activities involving extended focus and/or spinning motions? Are you triggered by movies or strobe lights or computer monitors? You may have to do a little experimenting to see if you can prevent the jerks from happening. Maybe try blinking more while at the wheel, or changing your breathing pattern, or taking breaks when possible. Sometimes it can help to make sure you are getting enough potassium and/or magnesium in your diet or through a supplement, since those nutrients play a role in relaxing and reducing muscle tension and jerks.
