Hi I am new at this, but figured I might get some help with my seizures here, so here goes. I had my first seizure when I was 13 it was a grand mal. I went several years with none and no meds then one day out of the blue they started again I have 1-2 a year is all but that's enough. I had one the other night after eating 2 homemade chocolate chip cookies. I felt as though my sugar level was very low and I was going to check it well I never made it came to I was on couch husband had moved me and in laws were here. If anyone has any ideas drop me a line....please....

Blood sugar levels can trigger a seizure along with so many other things. Triggers can be fatigue, lack of sleep, infection/sickness, some foods, some over the counter vitamins and more.
Do you keep a seizure dairy, listing everything --- the date and time of your seizures, foods, any new meds. sleep pattern, this will be a big help to you and your Dr.

I have seem inform. on this forum before but I can not remember (bad memory)

I got me a note pad I write the date, time of day, and now long they last as best I can.

I note if I didn't sleep well, or that I just started new meds. presc. over the counter, foods, ANYTHING out of my daily routine. I also have déjà uv so I note these.

I keep the note pad close by, and I take it to Dr. appt. with me.

Welcome tlburress!
I find the easiest is a day book, takes a lot of extra thinking/writing off your shoulders as it has individual days, times, and little spots separated off (the books I use have 1. stuff to remember 2. calls to make/made 3. special notes for the day (that's the box where I write in my partials and what I was doing when it happened).

My first thought when I read your post is if you have been tested for diabetes?

yes it has been years ago though turned out at the 2 hour blood draw my level had gone down to 59 and about 2 months ago I checked it and it was 39 so I am hypoglycemic for sure...

tlburress - this is my daughters issue too.
Thankfully she has raised her seizure threshold high enough so that she hasn't had a seizure in two years. She just turned 21 though so I am waiting for that phone call.

She tried gabapentin as her 2nd med, and it caused suicidal thoughts. Not good for my daughter. I actually believe that none of these meds are good if the cause of your seizures is related to blood sugar, hormonal imbalances, insulin levels etc.

Perhaps you need to work on raising your threshold, and the hypoglycemic tendencies won't put you over the edge. Staying away from high glycemic foods, etc.

Robin,
How do I raise my threshold? I didn't know that could be done. Just thought that meds and breakthroughs. I will do that if I find out how. Already leaving that kinda food alone...
