Hi all,

My name is Jon and I am new to the forum scene.

A little about me then....

In December 2008, I was in a car accident in Northern Virginia near where I was stationed whilst in the USMC. The accident was minor, but I was told to go get checked out by my squad leader at the nearest hospital - thankfully so.

I went to Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA where they did a routine post - MVC work-up and on a standard head CT, a small, grape sized mass was found in my left temporal lobe.

I followed up with an MRI and the mass was identified as a cavernous hemangioma and the four opinions I got varied from advising to get it taken out to leave it be.

I ended up getting it resected, and as a result, have had the battle with complex partial seizures for almost five years now, and up until a few days ago, I had gone almost two years without one. My neurologist just made a new adjustment to 2000 mg Keppra BID and 100 mg Vimpat BID. Not sure how I am liking the Vimpat yet, but I hate taking the medication period. I feel like it "dumbs me down" as I work in EMS and am a full time pre-medicine student.

I guess I am coming here to get to know those with similar frustrations. Sometimes, this disease process makes me feel like a total failure and makes me regret the decision I made to get a surgery that I thought would help.

Thanks for listening.

Hi jfbrashears, welcome to cwe. :)

Sorry to hear about the accident and about how it's affecting you now. That sucks about the seizures coming back after a few years. You're in a great place. Many friendly, helpful folks here, lots sharing those same frustrations.

Glad you joined us.

Never ever feel you are or like a failure, you are anything but that and you made the right decision to have surgery, it was a chance but one worth it. Its not easy going through any of this epilepsy can take a lot out of you so just hang in there.

Welcome to cwe, and I agree with fedup, NEVER feel like a failure because you are not, this is not an easy thing to live with, but this forum is extremely helpful and everyone needs a good vent! and a place to not feel alone, myself included hehe, I don't really have any other input than that im sorry but I did want to welcome you, as I am too new here.

Jfbrashears89, sorry you are not feeling overly cheery here in your situation. I certainly feel where you are at...

I came to this group of great people recently for the same reason as you. I have been dealing with seizures for about 18 years and to date I often feel the same way. Here in the last 3 years or so I have been 85% +/- seizure free until about two months ago when the seizures started going crazy. I suspect some new drugs will be clearing my problem... I hope :)

Fingers crossed and lots of hope things clear up for you. And yes, welcome aboard.
