Thank you Ruth & thanks for the love.

I know about the wine too and I have learned my lesson but I do have 1 or 2 once in a while. My husband keeps me in check. I use to drink daily! A few months ago I had too much and ended up in the ER where they gave me Ativan to bring me back. It was a day later though which they say is typical. I take a lot of vitamins as recommended by my nutritional Doc including a great multi that has all of the Bs plus and extra B12. I will ask my neurologist next time I see him about Ativan but he never told me anything about the Bs. I do take a lot of magnesium. I never feel any seizures coming on except for the 2 episodes I've had. My EEG says I have spikes which they tell me are seizures. If I have these all the time why don't I feel them? Since I was in Status I have been on meds so either the meds are working or something else is going on...before status (12/12) I never noticed anything and I was taking a pre-calculus class, working full time having just moved etc. Too much stress then.
Anyway thanks for the info.

Hi Bobbi,

That is why they do the EEG, because you do not always know that you are having seizures. A lot of them are in the brain and they do not show up.

I have had status 3 times. Mine went away when they decided to rule out Diabetes. It proved positive for Diabetes Type 2. It is just a simple blood test, ask to be tested for it. I did not have any symptoms of Diabetes at all. Since I have been on my diet for Diabetes type 2, I have not had any status seizures at all. That has been about 12 years ago.

I am on the Glycemic Index diet. You can google it on the internet.

While you are having status seizures you really need to quit drinking alcohol. That will trigger status, even one glass a day. Stress is a bad trigger for me.

Diabetes can cause seizures, as well.

Glad that you have joined the forum!!

There is diabetes in my family and I am hypoglycemic. I am going for another fasting blood test this Tuesday but not the 4 hour glucose. My mom had diabetes and the doctors she was going to never diagnosed it. Idiots! The diet I am on eliminates all grains and most sugars. Limited fruits and veggies. Have you read Grain Brain?

I really miss my wine so if I do drink I am cautious and its not often. Thanks for your concern.

I was having status seizures several times. I did not have any symptoms at all. My doctor tested me to rule it out.

Your diet sounds interesting. No, I have not read Grain Brain. I am on the Glycemic Index Diet. Have you been to Calorie King to see what is in your foods? It helped me a lot.

I don't understand the first part how you were having status without symptoms...how did he test you to rule this out? Is there more info on a website? I've read alot of books and never heard of this.

I never heard of calorie king. I just Googled it. I don't count calories but it is good to check for carbs and sugar. I lost 20 lbs since Dec 2013 (30 lbs since 2011) and I'm balancing out now at about 138 at 5'-3" tall. I also lost a few inches in height :-(. I never had weight issues till my 40s.

I downloaded the free app-I have similar ones and find it hard to keep track daily - I have little patience to do daily after a few days but I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Apps I also have used MyFitnessPal & loseIt but they let you log in all your foods for the day and total up carbs, fat and calories. As you log in each food you can read the details for that food and then keep a dairy for the day, week etc.

I am sorry that I got confused. Sometimes I do because I have Alzheimer's Disease.

I had status seizures 3 different times. I diefintely had seizures, one after the other.

They were trying to find the cause of my status seizures.

My doctor tested me for Diabetes, to rule that out. It turned out that I did have Diabetes Type 2. My BG was way over 400. For two weeks I could only have 30 carbs a day. I did and my Diabetes started to get under control. I did not have any more status seizures.

I had no symptoms of Diabetes, so it surprised me and the doctor.

I hope that I am making more sense.

I'm sorry that you have Alzheimer's Disease. Have you read about the wife (a doctor) who helped her husband with coconut oil? Here's an article on her:
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/a...-natural-food-cure-or-prevent-alzheimers.aspx

I had no symptoms at all for my epilepsy and woke up 3 days later in ICU saying WTF! Sorry but that's how I felt since I lost those days of my life. My mother too had no symptoms for her diabetes and always said she was a little hypoglycemic but I knew that she was never tested for it.

There is a new book also called Grain Brain by Dr David Perlmutter that is very interesting for brain health.

Have a good evening.

I read the article, it is about taking coconut oil. Coconut oil is full of saturated fat. The article is also against medicines. There are only 4 medicines for Alzheimer's. I am allergic to all 4 of them. It says that the coconut oil is for the early stage of Alzheimer's.

They have started on some more, but it will be years before they come about. I was diagnosed in 2008. I am in the moderate stage.

Sometimes I do not have an aura before I have my seizures either. I just wake up in the hospital. Every day is prescious in our lives and to miss any of it is rotten.

You have a good evening too.

Hi Ruth

The fat in the oil is different. Here is another article explaining the difference:

My orthomolecular doctor started me on 1 Tb/ day then increased it to 2 Tb. Conventional doctors think I'm crazy but I saw my mother improve with diet when she had colon cancer. She declined after my dad passed and went off her diet to only be taken over with tumors. I'm combining the knowledge of both conventional medicine and the orthomolecular. I feel better now with more energy, not sure if its from the new pills, the diet or the weather!

As for you being in the moderate stage I don't think there's enough evidence yet that this could help you get better or not but you never know if it could delay it from getting any worst. Study and pray about it and maybe it's something you can try. If not it has other benefits - I use it to remove make up. LOL I'm having a blood test tomorrow so I'll see if its effected my cholesterol which I also heard was better a little higher. There's so many things I read and listen to I can't quote anything right now.

Yes you are so right about how precious our days are and I hope we both have many more. The few times I was in the hospital scared me so much but the last time after I had status really frightened me since my family thought I was dying. I lost 4 days of my life to that coma. I was never overnight in a hospital before - not even when I gave birth to my 2 children. I feel like I've lost all of last year since my lifestyle changed so much after that episode.

Enough for now. Be well and goodnight.

There have been 4 times in my life when my family was told I was going to die. The first time was in 1950, when I had Steven's-Johnson Syndrome because I was allergic to Dilantin. My parents were told that I was going to die.

The other 3 times was when I was in status seizures. My husband was told that I was going to die.

I AM STILL ALIVE, is a poem that I wrote about it. I need to update it. I have been in the hospital so many times that I cannot count them. That is from the 1960's onward.

Good Morning Bobbi!!
