Hey all!
New to the forum, so I thought it best to introduce myself and explain a little about my condition.
I'm a 23 year old from Australia. I am sporty and in the gym many times a week. I'm as fit as a fiddle. Or so I thought.
I've had 1 confirmed tonic-clonic seizure on the 2nd of June this year. I had been drinking more than enough for one night. Woke up the next morning and had what I think are called absences. I had two or three of those which lasted not much longer than a 1/4 of a second. Just long enough for me to drop a glass of water and recover in time to almost catch it. I just attributed that to a really bad hangover. About 15 minutes later I had the seizure that lasted about 4 minutes and then I was not responding for about 20. I woke up eventually very confused and feeling sleepy. I was taken by ambulance to hospital and during the 15 minute trip, fully recovered and was back to feeling fine. I've since been diagnosed with a mild form of epilepsy that they believe will be controlled well with the drug epilim.
So far the condition hasn't been much more than an inconvenience. Not allowed to drive until December and I suppose the anxiety of not knowing if it was going to happen again or when or where I may be.
I did a little research into the drug I will be starting in the next day or so (I know you should never do this, as most of the time, none of it ever happens) It sounds awful what some people have had to go through on it. Has anyone had any experiences with epilim?
I don't know if I am putting this all down so it is off my chest or whether I'm hoping for re-assurances from people. I'm relatively lucky compared to some and I don't want to sound like I am whinging!
It definitely hasn’t been all bad though. I haven’t drank a drop of alcohol in the 3 months since and have lost 5 kilos, which puts me in great shape for the upcoming football pre-season.
Thanks all for listening to all of this. I look forward to contributing when I can
Much appreciated.
