Hows everyone doing? My name is Anthony im 23 yrs old and have been dealing with epilepsy for 10 yrs ive been on about 3 medications majority was tegretol (generic brand) I have no insurance or anything but I fight everyday to live a regular life. I was thinking of getting the surgery done but heard it might not work. I also had a neurologist but he disappeared of the face of the earth and left no documents of mine. Since I dont have insurance im not able to see a neurologist can anyone help me figure out how to see one? I live in Chicago by the way thank you all

I also need to know is it normal to be conscious the whole time while having a tonic clonic seizure? from what I have read everybody goed unconscious if u could help me with insight i'd really apprrciate it!

In any tonics iv'e had ive never been conscious during the seizing episode, and im not aware off any one who has been.Usually you can remember right up to the collapse, and it takes a while to come round after, when you are disoriantated for a while. For me il'l deny iv'e had a seizure for a while untill i feel the bite on my tounge-then i know.Hope this hellps a little, feel free to ask more questions. All the best.

Hi Anthony, welcome to CWE!

A tonic-clonic seizures definitely features full loss of consciousness, along with convulsions. There are other kinds of seizures though -- "Drop Seizures" where you lose all muscle tone and fall, but are fully conscious. And there are seizures where you can twitch and jerk while remaining fully conscious as well.

Can you try a free clinic (see http://www.communityhealth.org/faqs/#.UVpDlRywH7c) to see if you can be set up with a neurologist? You might also ask for help at http://www.c4chicago.org/

Best,
Nakamova
