Hey there, my name is Niki I have had nocturnal seizures for about 13 years 4 known seizures in all. Most recently I was on Tegretol XR 200mg x 4 daily. On March 21st I had a dr appt and my doc thought I was developing a rash from my meds so he told me to stop taking the meds. He didn't ween me off, just had me stop that day. Monday march 26th I was involved in an accident that nearly killed me, luckily noone else was hurt. I am now on 500mg of keppra x 2 daily. Does anyone have any experience with a dr just telling you to stop taking a med without weening you off of the med? How long until the new med will work, or will I experience more seizures because of the shock to my system?

I have heard many good things about Dr. Madhavan at UNMC

Ok, tried to put a link to him, but since I'm so new I can't post it.
Just google Dr. Deepak Madhavan - Omaha, NE

I believe he is the only epileptologist here in Omaha.
Might want to give him a try.

Here is a little biography about him http://www.unmc.edu/neurologicalsciences/index.cfm?L2_ID=20&L1_ID=2&CONREF=64 and here's his office & how you can contact him. http://www.ucomparehealthcare.com/drs/deepak_madhavan/offices.html

Our daughter takes Lamictal and her neurologist told us that IF she developed a rash to stop taking it at once, that he would not wean her off slowly. He did tell us that it would probably trigger a few seizures doing that.

Can Tegretol cause the same type of rash as Lamictal?

Yes, tegretol xr can have a similiar skin reaction. I just wish I would have been warned maybe to not drive for a while after stopping. I asked questions, but just wasn't given the best advise.

Hello. i saw this ad and wanted to let you know that ive been seeing Dr. Madhavan since November 2010. He is the doctor I am now seeing. Have you been able to get an appointment scheduled with him?

Yes, I am scheduled this week. It was a 3month wait period to get in to see him. I am excited and I hope he can give me more information about my seizures.

Welcome Niki and so glad you survived the crash. That must be one fearsome rash, to make it worth the raised risk of seizures by sudden withdrawal  . Hope your appointment this week goes well and you get answers.
