Hi. I was diagnosed 28 years ago when I was 6 years old. I have read many posts about getting enough sleep (which is a trigger for me) and about food allergies which may help controll seizures. I would love any information people could give me as I would love to try it.

The diets that have helped people reduce or control their seizures include the GARD diet and the MAD diet. You can search for specific threads regarding these diets and other related topics such as nutrition and supplements that can also be helpful.

Please, no "expert" title here. Perhaps a related interest, but I am far from an expert.
I see similar passion at other "neuro' sites, and it has helped me to draw personal conclusions. We share what we find, and post it all over this forum. So by beginning in the Library, and move out from there with related searches is the best way to find the information that makes sense to you. I can offer only what I have successfully done with my daughter. It has improved the quality of her life 99%. I am still holding out for the other 1%.

If you have kept any type of journal, you might already have some sort of an insight as to what might be useful.

Even as a side benefit, the proper nutrition will allow your body and your loved ones around you, to be in the best health possible. This improves quality of life, and prevents the possibility of future illness.
 
*chuckle* quite true Robinn...it's just hard getting the family to buy into healthier eating at times. :) For example, hubby made canned corned beef and rice last night for dinner. That's a least 500mg. of salt per serving, and had a confused look on his face when I said I can't eat that. LOL....( For those who don't know.......I have Meniere's disease. Doc has me on a NO salt diet. )
 
I'm trying to avoid salt too. It's not easy, there's so much sodium in anything processed or pre-made. I'm trying to taper slowly. I've hidden my salt shaker, and next I'll give up salted butter for the unsalted variety.
 
I gave

up salt a long time ago, when I was on Depakote, because of all the swelling that was going on from that med. Now, the doctors seem to think that I need to start using some. It tastes sooo gross to me now though...
 
Hi Nakamova! I know eating natural is better...but if you have to give up salt and still want toast, try finding a no-salt sprouted bread. I get one at the grocery store that is no-salt, 7grain, sprouted bread. It has 10 mg. salt per slice, and is also low fat. :) As for the butter, I use Fleishman's no-salt margarine. And jelly/jam is of course 0 mg. salt. :)

Try looking for the hidden salts too. For example, instant coffee has something like 50mg. salt, whereas regular ground coffee only has 10. Milk has more then 100 mg per serving. Which is why I switched to rice milk. :)
