Hi everyone,

I am married to a wonderful woman with epilepsy. I have joined this forum to share, ask and solve.

My wife has registered as well!

Some history: After contracting unexplained encephalitis, and coincident adrenal insufficiency (we still reckon hyponatremia was the cause), 6 weeks after our first child, 13 years ago, my wife recovered. She was left with that adrenal problem and ongoing epilepsy.

Seizures started out as 'freezes', hallucinations, left-side numbness with occasional left-side jerking. While the wider family was helping to bring up bub, Moo struggled with adapting to a totally new and scary situation. Not even the adrenal problem had been properly diagnosed so we had a few adrenal crises as well. Fantastic.

Once her health returned and the intensive rehab started to help, things started to become clearer but stuff like not being able to drive became a real frustration. Even though the meds were helping to control her seizures. Then we heard about cases of succesful surgery to stop epilepsy so we asked around. Fast forward to now and my wife is minus some scarred brain tissue, she has minor partial seizures which present as temporary left-side paralysis without loss to consciousness. We had had a second child, now aged 9 and enjoy a busy and fruitful life.

If we can help, we will and we certainly have a few questions.

Cheers

It sounds as if you and your wife have been through a lot, but are in a relatively stable place now, which is great. Is your wife on meds for the partial seizures?
