Has anyone been diagnosed with epilepsy or a seizure condition AFTER quitting smoking?

I've read of several other cases on other forums of ppl being diagnosed with bowel disorders such as Ulcerative Colitis after quitting smoking and I'm included in that bunch.

I got to thinking that since my UC was dx'd at the same time as my epilepsy(just months after I quit smoking) Does the quitting smoking also trigger seizures?

If that's the case, I can go off my AEDs and UC meds and go on nicotine therapy using the nicotine patch.

For sure something to think about.

By itself, nicotine withdrawal won't cause seizures. However if you already have epilepsy (or a lowered seizure threshold), the physical stress associated with quitting smoking can potentially be a seizure trigger. One of the medications prescribed to help people quit smoking has also been linked to seizures.

RanMan... I need to go through my GI doctor's notes. I had UC in the 4th grade and then again in early 20s. I believe he states something to the effect that cigarette smoking has been noted in the literature to keep UC at bay.. I will look, but give me a couple days.

I been off ciggs 4 month 2 month on a vaporiser 2 month patches....its cool

MaryK,
Anything you can find on it would be greatly appreciated.
My wife quit smoking back in Nov/2012, a few days after that she started having bowel troubles that presented like Ulcerative Colitis.
She is otherwise healthy and couldn't think of what may have triggered it but the only thing that she could think of was that this all started after she quit smoking.
So just for the hell of it, I went on the UC web site and there was lots of other cases exactly the same. This got me thinking, I was first dx'd with UC and Epilepsy at around a few months after quitting smoking, 35 years ago so I wonder if my UC and EP were triggered by quitting cigs.

MaryK, Anything you can find I'd LOVE to hear.
