I have to schedule a colonoscopy - should I have colonoscopy done - worried about AED limitations

Worried in what respect? Having a general anesthetic while on the aed's?
I had one while on carbamazepine and topamax and was fine. A bit groggy after but that's just the anesthetic. IMO if you need one it's for a reason, and not one to be messed with! Best of luck...

I take 90% of my AED medication at bedtime - I have 2 concerns:1) Will they allow me to take my meds at bedtime the night before the colonoscopy 2) If I take the bedtime meds will they go right through my system & not allow my brain to process the meds properly to prevent nocturnal seizures, Thanks for reply, gtowngirl, sturg

1. absolutely - these are life-saving drugs
2. knowing you have epilepsy and take meds they should have scheduled your scope for the appropriate time, ie:
I take my meds at 11 and 11. Took the 'juice' at 8pm, meds at 11pm like usual with a tiny bit of water, test was at 10am, and I was up and awake in time to take meds again at 11 - tickety boo.
what time is your test?

So you were able to wait until 8pm to take the "juice" then you took your meds 3 hours later with no problem? If I may ask are you controlling nocturnal seizures like me? Thx

yep no problems, but no not nocturnal, they're all over the damn place!!
all i can say - without any doubt - is pls take your meds no matter what. nothing is allowed to get in the way of that.

I've had one with no problems.
I take my dilantin meds. at 10:00 and 10:00 and I take 1/2 tablet of Clonazepam every 4 hours (around the clock).

The night before I took my 2:00AM and my 6:00AM meds. with as little water as needed to get the meds. down.

I was just sleepy headed from the anesth.

A colonoscopy was what started the whole possible epilepsy path for me!! I had it, it went fine and then about twenty minutes late... ba baum!!!! My blood pressure went sky high, my heart rate did too and I would not wake up (which is strange because I was starting to and it was only a light sedative apparently). When I eventually did come to, I was SSSSOOOO confused. Anyway, evetually went back to my gastro a while later cos I was still having problems, and she said she wanted to do another test, but wouldn't until I had been cleared for epilepsy because she had never, ever seen a reaction like mine in all her years of doing these icky endoscopies. Can't remember what the drugs were though... Hope you're ok - with your epilepsy and with your tummy.

Taking anti-seizure meds was allowed for my wife who also have nocturnal seizures. She have had 3 gen anesthesia during CS delivery. It's necessary to inform the doctor about your condition. She takes meds during night time instead of 3 times a day as advised by her doctor.

one them things up ya arse everything go sky high...i had loads of anesthetics and i take meds as per normal i had no problems.
