I'm currently prescribed 1mg dosages of clonazepam to take twice a day. Since I'm not actually diagnosed, this is all they would give me. There are days that I take one or two during the day to try to help or depending on what I'm going to be doing that day.

My dr said that was fine since he feels that I know my body and not a druggie.

Does anyone know or have insight on taking more dosages during the day, even more than the 1 or 2 extra is a good or bad thing? Because 1 mg doesn't seem like a lot and sometimes feels like it's not doing anything.

This is what drugs.com has to say:

Usual Adult Clonazepam Dose for Seizure Prophylaxis:

Initial dose: Should not exceed 1.5 mg/day divided into three doses.

Dosage may be increased in increments of 0.5 to 1 mg every 3 days until seizures are adequately controlled or until side effects preclude any further increase.

Maintenance dose: Individualized for each patient depending upon response.

Maximum Daily Dose: 20 mg.

I take Clonazepam 0.5mg half a tablet every four hours except at
10:00PM. That's a total of 3 1/2 tablets a day.
I'm also on Dilantin.

I also take Clonazepam. I'm only on .75mg per day 1/2 pill in the morning and whole tablet at night. I also take Tegretol XR

For you guys that take it, do you take the clonazepam to help with the seizures, or are the other meds ur meds to treat the seizures? and what does the clonazepam do for you?

I was 1st. put on 1 tablet 0.5 mg for insomnia, that was in 2004.
In 2005, when I went back to a Neur. that I had seen before (for years) he did not want to add a 3th meds. so he had me try taking 1/2 tablet every 6 hours, then every 5 hours, then finally every 4 hours did the trick at getting my seizures under control.

Before I was put on Clonazepam, my seizures were getting worse, they were lasting longer, came more often, VERY intense.

I've only been on Clonazepam for 3 months. I was put on it to help ease anxiety. Which it does help that. Right now it is not helping the seizures I'm having but I am probably not on a theraputic dose to control them.

I taken 1/4 of a tablet (0.5mg tablet) in order to stop seizure that started and would not stop. This is when Neur. was trying new meds. back in Oct. 2011.
Sorry, forgot name of meds.
My Neur. has told me to take THIS amt. in order to stop seizures, for me this works.

Our Jon (age 8.5) was on Clonazapam a couple months ago as a short-term med while doctors were figuring out why he suddenly started having lots of seizures again after being seizure free for some time. He was taking .5 then, for about 1 week. It didn't really seem to help the seizures, but it did help to calm him down, get focused, less agitated.

A warning about Clonazapam -- it's really only meant to be a "rescue drug" or for short term use (2 weeks). It is HIGHLY addictive -- even for folks who aren't "druggies" -and after several weeks, your body quickly grows used to it, and you have to increase the dose to get the same effect. It is probably the worse med to wean off of -- usually you have to gradually switch over to Diazepam, and then wean off the Diazepam.

A lot of people really like the effects of Clonazapam (and we certainly liked the effect it had on our son), but it's best avoided.
