I know when I am not having a seizure and rub the magnet across my VNS I will start to cough very bad. I've used it in my neuro's office so he can check the settings and this is how I know I cough when I'm not having the seizure.

If I feel like I'm having a simple partial I usually don't cough or cough as bad when I use it. Does this mean that I probably am having a simple partial? This afternoon I felt like I was having a simple partial and used my magnet I didn't cough at all. I'm not sure if I blacked out at all (had a complex partial) because I was alone.

My husband said that when he uses the magnet on me during a complex partial I might start to cough when I come out of the seizure and that's how he usually knows that the seizure is over.

I cough when my VNS is charging and sometimes when the magnet is rubbed across the VNS. I have no idea whether I cough or not when I have a seizure. Usually people DO cough when the VNS is charging, so it doesn't necessarily mean you've had a seizure.

My VNS is set to be on for 21 seconds and charge for 30 seconds.

I tend to cough a good bit in general but it's more of an 'ahem' clearing my throat cough. I think that is due to the VNS.

When I'm not having a seizure and rub the magnet over my VNS I cough VERY bad because of the tickle in my throat. It can last about a minute and can bring tears to my eyes.

If I feel like I'm having a simple partial and use the magnet I usually won't cough at all or maybe just a little wee bit. It's not a cough anything like I have when I know I'm not having a seizure and will use it.

And as I said when my husband is using the magnet on me while I'm having a seizure and I start to cough that's how he knows that I'm starting to come out of the seizure. I don't have any aftereffects of the cough, like bringing tears to my eyes, because I don't even know that he'd used it.
