Sorry to hear that. At least osteopenia is one step better than osteoporosis -- which means there's still a lot you can still do to prevent your bones from becoming brittle: Get plenty of calcium and vitamin D through your diet, and supplements if necessary. It also helps to do weight-bearing exercise on a regular basis (even walking counts), don't smoke, avoid sodas, etc.
 
I too have Osteo-peania from years of taking Tegretol and not getting alot of calcium. I was never a big milk drinker. Now I chew a lot of tums because of frequent hart-burn and I try to have a glass of milk a day and eat yogurt. Don't know if it too late but I think every little bit should help.
 
Be careful with tums to many and it can have an effect on your medication.
