For anyone who has partial complex seizures, is it normal for you to go months without having an episode? And then go weeks where you have 4-6 episodes a day?

I haven't had a seizure since March 25th at 9:30pm, so trying to figure out this seizure thing is starting to get really frustrating!!

I just wanted to see if anyone else has this weird pattern of seizures. :soap:

For months my daughter was having 3-4 simple partial seizures a week. Since the middle of March it suddenly dropped to only 3-4 episodes a month, and she'll go 2 weeks without any seizures at all. We haven't made any changes to her meds, and her stress has actually been off the charts recently. Since we are relatively new to this seizure thing (about 18 months since she was diagnosed) I will be really interested in seeing the responses. It would be great if I thought that things had just gotten better, but I worry all the time that they will come roaring back.

And yes, all the uncertainty is enough to drive you crazy!

I started having C-Ps when I was 12 and never told anyone and went untreated for years. My pattern was very irregular--I'd have seizures daily (one or two a day) for a week or two, and then they would disappear for months or even years at a time. Then they would come back for a while. I didn't have that many seizure periods overall. This pattern went on until I was in my 20s and finally considered it may be a neurological problem and saw a neurologist and got on meds. I eventually took myself off meds again (not recommended, I was young and foolish) and went seizure free for 5 years until I got pregnant and all hell broke loose seizure wise. I stayed on meds for 18 years and was seizure free until I had a head injury. I don't know what prompted the comings and goings of my seizure episodes when I was untreated, but there was a definite pattern to it--either I had a lot of seizures or I had none, usually no one-offs. I believe I just had periods of low seizure threshold for some reason I never identified, in large part because I had no idea they were even seizures. To me they were alarmingly frightening things I needed to hide from everyone.

The number of seizures you have and how long you go without one is different for each person.

Some people can go months between their seizures, weeks or only days.

On average I have 7 seizures a month. They may be spread out all through the month or I might have one at the beginning of the month, go 2 weeks or more with out a seizure then bam I'll have five or six the next week. Maybe even 2 or 3 in one day.

the longest I ever went was 18 months...but I had hardly any stress in my life during that time....last two years I have had an episode of tonic clonics every 6 months..usually a few complex partials here and there in between...added vimpat in February, because I hated lamotrigine which was added In December...If I can make it thru July, then I will have made it 6 months with out any seizures....vimpat is totally controlling all nightly complex partials as of now ..and still take Topamax for general seizures...none whatsoever since December so far...which is rare...

My seizures have changed drastically since I was a kid and I was 2 when I started having them. With my partials I could have 20 in a day or 20 in a month. I could be having CP's SP's or even tonic clonic .There is know pattern for me.Mine just come on when they come on.

Reads like my seizure log...11 last month spaced out evenly over the entire month, 3 this month so far all in the first week.
In the early years my seizures averaged 1 every 8 weeks.
