I am a 32 year old female, with 2 kids. Never had a serious head injury or anything like that.

Starting June 9, I started getting what I called "spells" where I just felt plain funny. They were very short (longest lasting about 2 minutes), and I would feel a cold tingling up and down my body, and a memory (not bad or anything, just strange) would kind of force its way to the front of my mind, and I could not stop thinking about it. I also got a floating feeling and kind of a deja vu feeling. These feelings didnt bother me at all, and I almost enjoyed them.

The first few times it happened, I ignored it, thinking it was traveling or lack of sleep or whatever, but then it started happening ALOT more. I had 4 in about 7 weeks, then I had approx. 15 in the last 2 weeks, always at night before bed. They were happening pretty much every night when I went to bed, and a few times in the morning or afternoon. I went to a Neurologist on Wednesday, and he started me on Keppra. He said they sound like partial seziures. I havent had a "spell" since starting the Keppra (as I said I was having them daily). And even though it has only been 2 days, I just feel better. Not so spaced out. I have an MRI and a EEG being set up to check on what is going on. Has anyone else had this happen? What could cause me to just start having seziures? Could this be something else?

I am fairly healthy, I do smoke, but planning on quitting in October. Dont drink to excess and am not stressed out in any way.

Any comments to this would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Does this sound like a seizure

Hi tambopper,

My seizures started out of the blue, similar to yours, when I was 23 years old. I was young and healthy, no other health problems, and then one day just started having what I thought at the time, were weird "spells", due to partying and lack of sleep. But over time they increased with intensity and from CP to TC as well. So yes, this does sound like a seizure. The MRI and EEG will be able to tell more.

Hang in there.

I am experiencing the same problem. I had a bad episode yesterday at work. I had been out drinking the night before and got 4 hours of sleep. All of a sudden I felt really cold, out of breath and strange (like a energetic and uncomfortable feeling that is hard to describe) and fidgety. I kept seeing images of friends from high school in my mind, and couldn't get it out of my head. My lower abdomen began to hurt and I became confused, like a state of stupor. I kept staring off, wandering around in circles, twisting and jerking my arms and my fingers. I had small jerks in my limbs on one side, and would travel to both sides. It was difficult because I was stuck at a register and wasn't allowed to leave. I didn't want to speak to any customers, because I felt like I couldn't talk. I saw my co-worker walk by and just moaned quietly to myself, instead of calling him over to tell him I was having a seizure. There were bright lights in my field of vision. For a moment I almost blacked out. I remember seeing the room turn black for a split second, and I felt like I was going to fall over. The rest of the day I felt out of it and really shaky and awful. My cheeks were also flushed because of it. My co-workers even commented on it. I also get floaty feelings and deja vu. What scares me is when I go into a rage and can't control myself. People yell at me and think I'm just being immature and reckless. I am scared of getting arrested because of my anger episodes in public.

I know I am having partial seizures, but I'm feeling like they're going from simple partial to complex partial. I'm starting to experience memory loss and altered consciousness. The thing was this episode lasted about 5 minutes. I don't know if that's too long for a true epileptic seizure. My doctor keeps telling me I have pseudoseizures from a type of conversion disorder (meaning it's all created in my mind and not abnormal electrical discharges), but I swear it is epilepsy (which my mother had) or something as severe.

I'm glad you went to the doctor and got medicine. I have done the same, yet all they did was send me away because I'm taking Neurontin, assuming that would be enough to make them go away. It helps occasionally, if I happen to take it when one is coming on. I usually get early notice before they happen, thankfully.

Sounds similar to my simple partial seizures that I have. Im also on Keppra, (Keppra XR) and take 3000mgs a day. The keppra has helped me out alot! Im 31 yrs old with three kids. I get to see my neuro again in less than two weeks. Sounds to me like the Keppra is helping. I agree, once you have the MRI and EEG, that will give them more information to go off of.

I didn't even know I was having partial seizures, until I had a tonic clonic that scared the crap out of my husband. Then I realised all my woozy feelings were seizures same with my olfactory (smell) hallucinations. I have always experienced deja vu, but lately I find it scary.

I'm glad the Keppra is working for you. So far I haven't found anything to stop the partials, but I haven't had a TC since February.

Thank you everyone for the support and the stories! Still havent had any partials since starting the Keppra, but the dizziness is a little disconcerting, but even that is getting better. Im lucky that we have decent insurance although the approval for the MRI is taking some time. I hope nothing shows up on them. If nothing does show up on them what then? Does anyone know?

All my MRI's come back normal. Its my EEG's that show slowing in the brain activity that is seizure activity going on. Have you had the EEG yet? If not, Id wait to see what the results of the EEG are.

I'll agree on waiting for the EEG results, though they can be normal even if you have epilepsy (my first one was normal and I'd had a TC seizure the preceding weekend). Your experiences sound a LOT like my partial seizures. Especially the memories. They feel very real when they're happening but I can hardly recall them when they're over. I don't get the cold feeling. I DO get weird sense in my stomach though. I hope they can figure you out :)
