I can't believe this!

I saw on the news that there is a school that is paying the kids to go to school. The students have to for show up everyday for school, be on time for class, do their course work and not get into trouble. Seniors would get $25 while underclassmen would get $10 each week if they do so. They also get $5 put into a savings account that they get after they graduate.

That totals up to $100 and $40 a month for the kids!!!!!

This is ridiculous. When I went to school, graduated in '95, these were things that you had to to. My parents MADE me do it and if I didn't then I got in trouble. I don't even think I got an allowance that added up to that much.

I could use an extra $100 a month, maybe I should go back to school.

Heck ya, I would go back to school in a heartbeat if they paid me! I graduated in 99. I never got paid to go to school!

It is crazy. My boys would be rich, they've had perfect attendance for years:)

Maybe it's for inner city kids in very dangerous neighborhoods. Many kids like that rarely, if ever, go on to graduate. Many drop out to join gangs and get into trouble. A program such as this could benefit the child that gets thrown away or overlooked in the school systems.

Maybe they offer such a huge incentive because they already know there won't be many takers. :(

We're very fortunate here where I live, in the burbs, with wonderful schools.

That deal doesn't make any sense, and it's pretty sad if we have to pay kids to go to school now. But I see your point about the bad neighborhoods. However, it sounds like a great way to pay off my college loan - I'll go back to high school! We'll make it part of our ten year reunion or something.

There's been something similar over here for years called EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance i think). It's for kids aged 16 up to 19 or something and about £30 ($42?) a week. It's only for kids who's parents don't earn much though.

We didn't have that when i was at school. Mind you, the governments talking about scrapping it now. It was an incentive for 16 year olds to stay in school after their mandatory education finished. My incentive for going to college at 16 was learning something so i could get a decent job lol.

It's a urban charter high school (not sure what that means) in Ohio.

They get a Visa pre-paid credit card every week when they do this.
