This has got to be the most bizarre reaction I've had to an item. I have MCS so I have a lot of allergies but who would expect petroleum jelly to cause a neurological reaction. I've been using PJ for several days for dry skin & haven't noticed anything weird until today. I've felt like I was about to have a seizure all day. I've been nauseous, lethargic, can't think clearly. My memory is not good but my husband reminded me that I had a problem with PJ before. I did some research & it seems PJ may even cause cancer.

Have any of you had any problem with PJ? I wouldn't have believed the skin would absorb it but it has. thanks.

I've never heard of nor experienced a neurological reaction to petrolatum, but fat-soluble substances are far more likely to absorb into our skin and into the bloodstream than water-soluble ones. I wouldn't doubt the ability of anything petroleum-based to make a person sick for a minute. I got douched in the face with a bunch of diesel once and i was sick for days.

Thanks ajax, I'm having trouble believing PJ could cause these type symptoms. I'm basically allergic to the world so I guess anything is possible.

Can you try something more natural? Here are some ideas: emu oil, almond oil, shea butter. There are many choices that you can find at the health food store with just a few ingredients.

I remember my son's doc telling me to put PJ on my son's eczema. What did not bother him before ( other than the looks of it) then became an itchy, red mess. The doc's solution...give him an antihistamine!!...ugh!!! My solution was to discontinue to PJ and figure out what was causing the eczema in the first place. It turned out to be wheat. Took wheat out of his diet and his eczema AND night terrors went away.
