Has anyone discontinued long term Phenobarbital?
I've been on it for 58 years.
My primary doctor and Epileptologist want me off because of ataxia and frequent falls.
I hold to the theory if it isn't broken why fix it. Sure, I fall but as long as my meds keep the seizures at bay I'll deal with the falls.
Would you switch meds for something that may or may not work?

Hi Jake,

I took Phenobarbital for many yrs. and then my neurologist I had at the time put me on Mysoline/Primidone
because it was stronger for me and it helped my seizures. I finally saw an Epileptologist and I found out
that by having a DNA test done you can find the best seizure med for yourself with the least side effects or
the test will show if you are drug resistant. I found out I was drug resistant so my Epileptologist had me
start using the medical marijuana and I was amazed at how that decreased my seizures.

It's up to you but you may want to try mysoline/Primdone it has phenobarbital in it along with another
drug or you can get the DNA test done to find what works the best for you.

Wishing you the best of luck and May God Bless You,

Sue
