Hi

I have TLE and mainly have partials, atypical absences and myoclonics.

Over the past 7 weeks my seizures have increased to everyday but 2 of the latest ones in the last 2 weeks i've had cold arm and leg, which then becomes heavy achy and the coldness achy feeling lasts for a week but the one I had last week is lasting longer.

And I cant keep my arm or leg warm.

The last one I had the post ictal symptoms were the worst ones I ever had as I wasn't coming round after 2 and hosp didn't do anything either apart from force me to go home after an hour when wasn't coherent and hadn't seen dr (couldn't explain myself anyway)

Could it still be seizure related? or anything else. Dnt know what to do.

Hi shellbelle, welcome!

A few questions:

Are both sides of the body affected by the cold, or just one side? Do the affected limbs feel cold to the touch? Do they warm up with vigorous massage, heating pads or a hot shower?

Are you on anti-seizure medication? If so, can you ask you neurologist about making a change in dosage, or switching to a new medication altogether? If you can get better seizure control, that might help with the rest of the symptoms including the limb pains.

Hi and thanks

I have left TLE and its my right side that is affected. Feels cold to the touch. Ive tried massage but need to do it all time. The only thing I have to do is go to bed and put electric blanket on.

Im on Keppra and lamotrigine. The lamotrigine has never worked.

My seizures have changed over the past 2 years and was referred to different hospital and since july im waiting for VEEG, however theres problems and there not doing any at the moment so could be months down the line. But consultant said she needs to see where focus is to then give me different meds. The MRI showed abnormalities but wasn't showing on the routine eeg.

I went to my GP yesterday and as im at the highest dosage for both drugs he couldn't do anything so he's written to consultant. so just got to wait.

ive had this bit before but only lasted a day.

If it's just your right side, then it seems very likely that it's seizure-related. Seizure symptoms often occur on the opposite side from the area of the brain where the seizure originates.

The consultant is wrong -- she definitely doesn't need to to know where the seizure focus is in order to change your meds. Is there any way you could change consultants? Or get your GP to give you a small short-term prescription for something like Clonazepam to see if it helps? There's no good reason for you to suffer like this.

The cold that won't go away suggests that you might have circulation problems that are making the seizure symptoms worse. Do you have any other health problems? Do you smoke? Sometimes those can be contributing factors. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water, since that can help the blood get to your extremities to warm them up. And try running or doing aerobics as well. Also Deep Heat cream or similar stuff from your drugstore. Anything to get the circulation going!
