post-traumatic epileptogenesis

is the difference between PNES and Epilepsy that PNES' epileptogenesis is psychological while epilepsy's genesis is chemical/physical?

if a period of trauma occurs during a postictal period (or during a seizure period) is it possible to get PNES because of trauma during an ictal period?

am I thinking about this stuff too much?

:paperbag:

The difference has to do with the actual mechanism of the seizures. Epileptic seizures are caused by abnormal neuronal firing. In non-epileptic seizures the neurons are behaving normally.

Some people have both epileptic and psychogenic seizures, so it's possible that one would cause the other.
