After my seizure I always have 2-10 mins of memory loss as to what I have done immediately following the seizure. What determines how i act during that time?
I know I'm walking around because I always end up in a different place than where my seizure was. I am always worried that I kicked someone or yelled or said something inappropriate or that I will in the future.
I know I can ask someone what I did, but what actually determines how i act and what I do during that time?

Hi Clancy,

Welcome to the forum! Each time after I have a seizure I have a loss of memory for a few seconds also. When I have a complex partial seizure I will walk around and find myself in another room also just like you mentioned. It could possibly postictal that's going on with you and that's when you are out of it and not aware during or after the seizure for a few minutes. This has happened to me and my neuro increased the cbd (medical marijuana) and since then I haven't had any more problems with this. If others are around you ask them if they notice you smacking your lips or possibly pulling at your clothing this is also a sign of a complex partial seizure. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

Sue[/quote]I spelled postictal wrong :(
They are complex partial, I tend to drool on myself, smak my lips, and move my arms a little.
I have auras so I record them on my cell phone.
I see myself stand up and walk away on the camera. I'm just curious as to how I act after that and what determines it. I'm always a little worried.

I've had epilepsy for 13 years. I'm pretty knowledgeable about it and have had 2 brain surgeries to fix it. My past alcohol abuse made it very difficult for the doctors to help me out :(

Hello, clancy693. Unless I have a witness present or do something to myself/my surroundings during a complex partial, I don't even know that one has occurred. I have, for example, burned myself (2nd & 3rd degree) many times. I get no aura prior to the complex partials. I get simple partials, but there's no association with when the complex partials occur. I am also partially "out of it" during the postictal state. I've been recording when my seizures occur & what happens during them in a notebook since 2005.

I've taken almost every AED out there. I'm currently on 400mg/day of both Topiramate & Vimpat. I still average 1-3 breakthroughs/ month.

Meds didn't work on me until brain surgery.

Im sorry to hear about you not having auras. I thank my lucky stars every time I have one.

I don't think there's any particular determinant, since you brain is on "automatic pilot." To some extent you may react to the environment around you, but not necessarily in a logical fashion. It's a bit like sleepwalking.

I call it autopilot!!!

To me it is like being black out drunk. I had a drinking problem :(
