Has anyone taken primrose oil. I am asking because my OB Dr. told me to start taking this 3 times a day.

I was researching on the Internet and it says for people with Epilepsy not to take, could cause seizures.

Also She gave me samples of deplin (for depression) has anyone tried this.

I don't want to add another pill in the worst way.

BUT if these will help with my depression. I have been fighting this for several years and it is getting worse. BOY do I hate to admit I need help with this also.

I am only going to add one at a time to my daily regiment.

Just asking for anyone who has used these.

I've taken evening primrose oil as an Essential Fatty Acid and had not problem with it effecting my seizures at all. It neither helped nor hindered them.

Deplin is a medical food (safe as a vitamin) that is unique in address symptoms of depression, specifically those that can not seem to get better, partial-responders. Deplin helps other anti-depressants to work correctly and quickly, with minimal side effects. The Deplin website gives real good information and studies. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I am not going be able to use deplin medication. My insurance does not cover this. With the cost of $275.00 a month.

so how I'm trying the evening primrose oil - I read all info. on the internet. But I have to got to have something.

Jyearta-

For depression, Deplin is a safe and unique option (see the Deplin website) at getting better faster. If your insurance does not cover Deplin, I think they have a direct mail order that has a cash pay of 70 dollars for a 30 day supply. Let me know if you need anymore information.

I would appreciate the information on deplin very much.

I am so tried, I have bee up most of the day and night looking on the internet for what I need, (don't like to think it's up to me -NOT A DR. OR PHAR.) trying to find what I need. SCARY

but when I tell my neur. that I need something for depression, he ask what do I want. I DON'T KNOW.
I have tried many depression medic. with bad side effects. seizures

I'm B-12 defici. and react badly to the shots. I talk to a compound Phar. asking what do I need to know so that I can TELL the DR.

Going to make appt. with FP and request test to try to find out why my heart is racing so bad when I get the B-12 shots.

Oh I could keep going on, but I do not have the energy, I cann't stop crying. I just have tried so hard to get help.
I must be asking to wrong questions.???

Forgive me if this doesn't make sense.

Jyearta-
for the first time I can feel someones pain. Let me share with you what I have, myself, experienced in the past. As a former sales rep for Deplin, I have built relations with many Psychiatrist over four years. I have heard so many stories about patients that battle depression, chronically. One thing i have discovered is that (because treating depression in so much a guessing game) severe depression may come from low levels of the three neurotransmittters (serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine) which can cause a slew of symptoms, including depression. Because of a genetic defect (677CT polymorphism in as much as 70% of depressed patients) some depressed patients cannot convert folic acid to what the body uses, L-Methylfolate. The L-Methylfolate is required to help synthesis more of the brains neurotransmitters, having more of the nueros, allows a depressed patient to not only get better, but maybe faster. If you do not know if you have this genetic defect, and are folate deficient, this may be why you are always struggling with getting to full remission. Also, because the three neurotransmitters work synergistically, this may also help in over all well being. Did you get to visit the Deplin website for more information? Please let me know if you need more clarification.

I thank you very much for your time and input.

I did go onto the deplin website, maybe I missed something.

in regards to the folic acid, I think this is one of my problems, I need this (again from what I read) to help my body absorb the B-12 shots. I have tried over the counter - folic acid- (diff. brands) each time I have a seizure. --I don't understand compound phar. -- but I thought by me telling my Neur. this and asking for a compound form, that was what my body is needing.

I've also told my Neru. that the B-12 shots cause my heart to race rapidly, feels like it is coming out of my body.
Having said that I know I need the B-12, I already some nerve damage and I don't want to become a burden to my husband. I so want to get back to Decorating homes, but I do know that we don't always get what we want.

The phar. is asking what is in the folic acid that makes have seizures. AGAIN I DON'T KNOW. I have asked is there a way to find if I'm senitive to the coloring, or one of the additives. Both have told to find out and let them know. I have no ideal how to find this out for them.

I'm sorry, I will shut up.

but when I tell my neur. that I need something for depression, he ask what do I want. I DON'T KNOW.

Has he sent you to a neuropsychiatrist who could treat you with the proper meds. Sometimes, epilepsy and depression go hand in hand. Some of the epilepsy medications are also used for bi-polar patients, and some of the epilepsy meds make depression worse for some of us. My neuropsychiatrist had tried me on many different medications and finally found a tricyclic med along with an SSRI for my depression. But it took a lot of trial and error before we found something to work for me, just like it did for my seizures.

Oh I could keep going on, but I do not have the energy, I cann't stop crying. I just have tried so hard to get help.

No you're not asking the wrong questions, just the wrong doctors. You need a dr. who specializes in seizures and depression/hormones that can help figure this out.
Are there any neuropsychiatrists in your area?

I don't know if there is one in the surrounding area. I will start looking into this.

My neur. before this one, didn't return calls, and would say MMM, when I asked a question.

I have only seen this neur. once (8/11/11)

This probably sounds stupid, but I thought this is just the new way and no matter where I go, it's going to be this way.

I didn't know my life could turn so fast and into a mess.

I know by reading the other post that some many have it worse than me.

Jyearta-

Make sure to ask a Psychiatrist that is experienced with Deplin (I know it is asking a lot) to please make sure you stay on as an augmentation for the depression, I am not that familiar with epilepsy medications, but the great thing about deplin, safe as a vitamin and it folic acid converted, you may not want to take folic acid anymore, Deplin is the converted type your body requires. Hope you feel better.

Well, here is some more info from Drugs.com about Deplin. Any other meds can/do interact with epilepsy medications as AED's are very potent medications. This does mention seizure medication(s). Please make sure you point this out when you sell your "magic solution" to doctors.

The Deplin brand of l-methylfolate is used in the following situations:

-in people with major depressive disorder who have folate deficiency. Deplin is used together with anti-depressant medications in people with major depressive disorder and low folate levels.
-in people with schizophrenia who have hyperhomocysteinemia related to folate deficiency.

Deplin is not an antidepressant. However, it may enhance the effects of antidepressant medications.

What is the most important information I should know about Deplin (l-methylfolate)?

Before you take this medication, tell your doctor if you have a vitamin B12 deficiency, pernicious anemia, a history of bipolar disorder (manic depression), or if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Tell your doctor about all other medications you use, especially seizure medications. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.

I use to take Primrose Oil for my migraines, however I still had to have major meds for that time of the month when they usually hit. 30+ yr history

Now since I have been taking daily magnesium, I have not had a migraine in about 6 yrs.
