So I started taking keppra. I haven't had a tonic clonic seizure in 3 years but as a caution they put me on the meds. I started experiencing the tiredness and then the rage so I stopped taking it and fell into a gran mal seizure.

I have a busy schedule and children who have to deal with my rage its becoming difficult to deal with the mood swings. I tried the b6 but doesn't help. Does anyone else have this problem? Or do you have any suggestions about how to stop the rage. Thanks.
Trish

I was on Keppra & had to stop because of numerous side-effects.

My personal opinion is that if side-effects of a drug disable you more than the seizures than it's time to start trying new drugs.

I remember neurologists who had no problem turning me into a zombie as long as I didn't have seizures. I'm now careful of that mentality & try to stay as functional as possible.

Hi Trish --

As with the other AEDs, Keppra seems to be a mixed bag, with folks experiencing a wide variety of reactions. For some people the side effects fade over time. You can search for comments on Keppra using the search tab at the top of the page. And below is a link to a recent thread about Keppra as well.

I've been on keppra for about 6 or 7 years, and i only have the tired feeling, they switched me to the xr version, and i dont feel as tired anymore, so maby it will help with the rage and things you have if you were to switch to the xr? just a suggestion, it works just as well as the regular, good luck hun :)

I'm on Keppra xr

2000mg

I've got 4 children and have a busy life too. I've been on Keppra for about a year now. Started at 500mg went to 3000 mg and found the right dosage at 2000mg. The mood swings were tough on me and my family, i n fact very tough but we all got through it and I am very happy with Keppra as it has controlled my seizures very well, in fact better than anything i've been on over the past 34 years.

Here is what I found:

stick with it, it took my body about 10 months to find the right dosage and get used to it.

The rage usually happens when the level of Keppra falls in your blood. My sure to take the drugs as part of a routine, ie 8am and 8pm. This helped a lot, esp when I went to higher dosages.

I also made sure to eat something whenever I took the drug adn this helped. Getting enough sleep and some exercise helps a ton as well, endorphins are the worlds most under rated and appreciated drug. Find the time somehow and it will pa HUGE dividends.
