Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had inside info on the status of the video EEG unit at Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. My wife was supposed to be admitted on Thursday, but her Neurologist's office called us at the last minute to tell us not to come because the machines were down. We were told we would get a call the next day (Friday), but no one did. We ended up calling them, & they told us it would probably not be until Monday or Tuesday. It's now Monday, & we're both freaking out. We've basically stopped living our lives because we need to be ready to go to the hospital the moment they call to say they're ready for us. The Neurologist's office seems to be as much in the dark as we are about the status of the problem over there.

If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated!

If the EEG machines are down, it's possible that they really don't know when they will be running again -- they could be waiting on a service call, or trying to fix a software bug. Best thing to do is keep calling the EEG unit, and ask for as much info as possible as to the reason for the delay and most precise guess as to when the unit will be ready.

Thanks, Nakamova. I take it you've encountered something like this before? Is it relatively common? I can't imagine they would still be waiting on a service call 5 days later! The EEG unit does generate a lot of revenue for the hospital...

Yep that's happened, and it was down for a couple months. It screwed up the list pretty bad, and from the time it was scheduled to the time i actually did it was about three months. Sucked. This was in a smaller city that only has two eeg techs tho, so the waiting list was pretty long as it was.

Thanks, qtowngirl! Holy cow, I hope this doesn't happen in our case! We haven't been able to get through to the EEG unit yet; only to my wife's Neurologist's office (which is part of the same healthcare system, but isn't being given much information). We're going to try to get through to them today if we don't get a call by noon.
