My daughter's neurologist originally said to reduce the dosage 125 mg per week. Now she is saying it can be done in 10 days in the hospital during a V-EEG. Does anyone have experience getting weaned off keppra?

She is on 1500 mg of XR, once a day.

For me, last april I was slowly being weaned off Keppra. My neuro said to go down 250mgs each week, to get completely off, from 3000mgs a day, it would have taken me 12 weeks to get completely off. Just going down that slow affected me. At that time, my dr wanted me to try Lamictal, but within days of starting it, I was having an allergic reaction, and had to be taken off. I was having numbness and tingling sensations in my body that would not stop as I went down in dose on the Keppra. Once I saw my neuro again, he put me back to 3000mgs of keppra and the numbness and tingling stopped. So just going down to 2500mgs affected me.

I dont know if I would want to even try getting completely off of Keppra by spending 10 days in a hospital. I had a veeg done in march 2011 and was taken off Keppra completely. I hated the affect it had on me. I dont recall much, but the stuff I do remember was hell.

Thank you

Kristen,

Thanks for sharing. I'm dealing with an issue right now. My daughter had a absence seizure on Friday and now cannot see. I am trying to schedule an MRI and an MRA. I hope you are doing well and appreciate your input.

I hope you and your boys have a very Happy Holiday!

Tom

Im so sorry to hear about your daughter having a seizure on friday. have you spoken with the dr about her not being able to see now? I would for sure be very concerned and if it were me, I would have probably taken her into the ER when she lost her sight. Keep us updated on her condition. She will be in our prayers.

I hope your family has a very happy holiday too!

Thanks. She was in the ER and admitted. Had a 48 hour V-EEG and discharged. Waiting to get an MRI.

Has her vision returned? How is she feeling? I hope you get some answers from the most recent tests.

No change

Nakamova,

We are waiting to get an extensive MRI scheduled. She has three doctors (epi-neuro, neuro and neuro opth) who want to see different fields, so the insurance company is taking issue.

Hoping this week.

Thanks
Tom
