I take Epilim EC500 (2000mg per day) and always take it with or soon after eating because if I don't I find that it makes me feel sick. I have heard that you can take these tablets on a full or empty stomache but that is obviously not the case for me. It always feels like my throat has been scratched on the way down and it feels like there is still something there. I also get an acid reflux feeling to the point of vomiting. So obviously this is the effect for me so I avoid this as much as possible (although sometimes I have had it occur even though I've eaten, but obviously not enough) but I'm just wondering if I'm the only one with this experience? Is it the enteric coating that does this (and yes I do swallow it whole) or something else?

Trinity, IIRC, when medicine is marked "take with food", it is usually because the way it is distributed through the body. I have had the coating on medicine upset my stomach from time to time. Each drug may have different chemical coatings and sometimes they may just have that effect on certain people. Tell your doctor that they do this, but until you hear back, take the medicine however you feel best as long as the bottle isn't tagged not to.

The enteric coating is meant to keep the Epilim EC from being absorbed or broken down until it enters the intestines, so it's probably "tougher" than chewable tablets, and harder on the stomach.

So yes, go with your "gut" on this one. :) People have different sensitivities, if you've found taking the Epilim with meals helps, then that's the way to go.
