when I have complex seizures how can I know what is going on around me, the people around, the conservation, place. but I didn't what I was doing, the lip smacking, lobster claw like movements.

I can tell my husband what was going, what the people said, everything but I don't know what I did.

morning jyearta,
this is a very good question, a real debate in my eyes. i'd say i've had well over 1000 partials in the past 19 years, i know them like a twin sister... they're always the same and i can always count on them to be there. they have a pattern, as SIMPLE partials do, and i've never blacked out unless they go tonic clonic. i remember everything that happens, hear what people are saying, completely aware of my surroundings. the ONLY symptom of a complex that i display (and no i wasn't aware of this) is the swallowing.
i really got fucked on this one b/c the only time my boyfriend pointed it out was the first time we met with an epileptologist. thanks hun. so she's running with that and saying they're complex, not simple. NO. i've researched this to death and they are textbook simples. i believe i swallow b/c my tummy turns over which makes my mouth water. why wasn't i aware of it? maybe b/c the partial is scaring the shit out of me so bad that i'm a TAD distracted.
big debate - i hear ya loud and clear. you have the classic signs of a simple yet do a few things from a complex. my question- is it possible to be having a mix of both?

Now let me see/hear you correctly...

What I'm calling a complex --- staring, swallowing hard/many times, lobster claw like movement in my hands, Etc is a simple seizure.

I was thinking that the déjà uv / where all seems like it has happen before to the T, was a simple.

I feel like a nut.

well (and first let me say i'm no doctor, have just had E what feels like forever and done MASSIVE research on this stuff)... what i'm saying is it seems the two can really co-mingle. i'm like you - can hear, see, completely understand everything around me, total awareness. and the deja vu WOW. but, these things do not happen with a complex partial.
however, you and i both also do things that are complex symptoms, so i find it a good debate if anything. arnie should jump in here too, we were talking about this on another thread.

... i must ask when you say 'what you are calling a complex' - is that literally or is that the diagnosis you've been given?

Thanks for your time and input.

I was diagnosed with absence seizures.

That was in 1971.

In reading and researching I don't think that's the case.

SOOO to answer your question, I diag. myself.

okay. have you talked to your neuro about possibly having partials? cuz if not you may be on the wrong meds :(

E knowledge a long time ago ain't what it is today - maybe ask about more of a diagnosis, different tests maybe?
