Has anyone diagnosed with partial seizures found it hard to find and keep a job? Does anyone know of any legitimate work at home jobs? I have a hard time even riding in a car much less driving. everytime i start down the road i feel like im going to be sick and pass out. i live with my boyfriend and he works 12 hour shifts 3 months on nights 3 months on days so it makes it hard to work out a work schedule. Any suggestions

Some home-based jobs involve data entry (like medical transcription, billing, and coding). Maybe you could look into that. Also web and graphic design.

Fortunately I've only had seizures at night, either during sleep or during the period just before you actually fall asleep. My partial seizures wake me up and freak out my partner cause apparently I make a lip smacking sound (I'm aware I'm having a seizure but not aware I'm lip smacking). So apart from when I first started having seizures it doesn't affect my day job *touch wood* I have to say that I'm terrified of what would happen if it did start affecting me during the day, I hated not working for even just a small amount of time :(

Where about are you located? There are a lot of options for home based jobs, I guess it depends on what you might be interested in. I've actually heard of people who've opened a simple small business at home because, they couldn't work and they ended up becoming millionaires!! You never know what might happen :-)

I do understand your frustration and hope something comes your way though.

I had problems getting and keeping a job for a long time, it was not that I wasn't a good worker, it was that I would often forget things, space out on things and do random things. Most jobs loved me for the first couple weeks because I would get a lot of different things done then they started to notice that none of them really got completed because my mind got sidetracked and they would start to get onto me about it.

If it's a situation like that, get a fast paced job that changes consistently. If transportation is a problem and you are only getting sick to the stomach than I would suggest promethezine or something for car sickness, if you have trouble driving due to their seizures than an at home job would likely be the best method but they are extremely hard to find as they are very high demand.

Oh yeah as for job related:

I got a retail job at Radio Shack, they love how I can bounce around from one thing to the other and they actually promoted me to Store Manager partially because of it. Now I can use my shortened attention span to bark different orders to different employees. Just need to start writing down my orders so I can follow up on them lol.

Has anyone diagnosed with partial seizures found it hard to find and keep a job?

My manager wants me to cut down my hours so they can replace me in my job in the not-too-distant future, because of my partial seizures, and the driving issue. I can drive at the moment, but have had complex partials, so losing my license seems only a hair's breadth away. There is no public transport in my area.

I have days when I barely function at my old level, and I struggle to get to work on time. My manager and I have worked together to put some strategies in place to protect my health and enable me to work as long as possible (so please don't think he's an ogre, from what I said in the first para), but the end of this job is looming.

So I'm also looking for alternatives where poor concentration, constant fatigue, occasional migraines, and forgetfulness are welcome. Working from home seems a good option, especially given the lack of public transport.

my last job was working in a factory operating plastic injection molding machines and building toolboxes. They loved the fact that i could work faster than most at putting the toolboxes together and packaging everything up and i had a very good attention to detail. I could spot a defect a mile away. But when it came to operating the machines where i had to take parts out and put parts in for very long periods of time i would space out and forget to either take something out or put something in. When I had my first seizure (that I know of) I was at work. After that I noticed that they were slowly trying to find a replacement for me and since i was a temp it was not that hard to do.

I have heard that a lot of bill collectors are freelance
for example, late on my cable bill I received a reminder call and I called the guy back who was obviously driving, I asked him and he confirmed being a private contractor
I guess it would involve just getting a list of owers via email or something, and just calling them
I'm not sure of the specifics but I've heard it can pull in a lot of money
for one, collection companies don't have to pay rent on a desk for a collector because they're doing it whenever they want from wherever they want

maybe that's something i should look into. I use to be a telemarketer so having people cuss me and hang up on me is nothing i have not dealt with before.

I had my first Grand Mal seizure at work. After about 6 months my boss worked out a plan to make me easier to fire. Our policy was and is to give a verbal warning then write up the person. I made one mistake and got wrote up, a clear violation. It was a very frustrating time for me and my family. Good news is 3 Grand Mals, 3 bosses, and over 3yrs later I am still on the job. I got lucky with the company changes or I would have been in bad shape.
