Hi Everyone, I was hoping someone could help with this question. I have been receiving treatment for temporal lobe for the last year or sore. I never really got alot of head pain with this but recently i am getting severe shooting pains down the right side above my ear, they literally last 2 seconds but are horendous. Is this normal? x

Can you think of any recent change in routine or diet that might be related to the "ice pick headaches" you are having? If there's no obvious cause (or even if there is) I think it's worth mentioning to your pcp and/or neurologist. There can be many causes for "ice pick" pain, including issues with the occipital nerve or sinuses. Let the doc know when it started, how many times it's been happening, if it's been increasing in frequency, and if there are any associated symptoms (like blurry vision or tenderness of the skin where the pain occurs).

You can rad more about "ice pick headaches" here: http://headaches.about.com/lw/Healt...and-diseases/All-About-Ice-Pick-Headaches.htm

Thanks very much for replying to me. I havent had any changes that i can think off at all. I will let m neurologist know when i attend in a few weeks, thanks again, your a star. xxx

Let us know how it goes with the neurologist!

Seri,

There are a lot of different types of headaches. Ice pick headaches hurt and they are scary, too.

Some people's seizures trigger headaches. Mine trigger migraines. It makes sense that any kind of postictal headache could occur.

Please remember talk to your neurologist about it when you see him in a few weeks. He'll have some good insights and advice.

X-ray solar flares seem to be the trigger for me, as strange as that sounds. I almost fell over when I read that you get them on the right side of your head, right above your ear. Same here. And yes, they don't last very long, but they are sharp and excruciating.
