I am new to this website because I have just realized that I may have epilepsy. Plus my father has it so I joined to ask questions and help others with their epilepsy as well. Strobe lights bother me. However, I would usually shut my eyes really tight before I have a seizure, so as far as I know, strobe lights cause me to have minor seizures where I twitch kind of like crazy but not shaking all over the floor.

Do I have epilepsy? If so, is it mild like I think it is??

Hi deafsweetheart33, welcome to CWE!

Photosensitivity and twitching symptoms are characteristic of epilepsy. That and having a family history does suggest that you may have a mild form. It's worth keeping track of of your symptoms or episodes -- if they seem to be progressing in frequency or duration or kind, then you should consider seeing a doc about them. More info about photosensitive epilepsy here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosensitive_epilepsy

Some folks have found that wearing dark polarized glasses helps when you can't avoid strobe lights or other similar triggers in your environment.

Best,
Nakamova
