Wondering about side effects for Keppra other than the emotional or kepprage as I have read about here. Is there any connection with stomach issues (pain under ribs) or skin problems (blemishes/small rash). I am also on Dilantin (500 mg and 2000 Keppra)

both the drugs could be responsible. I feel dilantin is more likely to cause these symptoms. If you were recently put on these drugs it could be an allergic reaction. The thing you should definitely watch out for is gum problems with dilantin. If you're a girl ( sorry , but cbmc is pretty much generic) , there may be some excessive hair growth . How is your liver function? Both the drugs are metabolised by the liver and if it's not upto it then you may have liver problems. If you drink , lay off the booze for a while and see if it helps your ache. If it doesn't stop , then see your doctor to change the drug.

They tried to put me on a combo of Dilantin and Keppra, and I got REALLY nauseous. It was terrible. I got off the Keppra, and I'm good to go.

Keppra is one of the few (only?) anti-epileptic drugs that is not metabolized in the liver.
I forgot "keppra" is levetiracetam. it's metabolised by hydrolysis in plasma. you're right. how embarrassing:oops::oops::oops:. I guess i'll have to brush up on the names of brands every time you guys use brand names just to check. Here they are just known as "levetiracetam" and "phenytoin". ( btw , right now i'm a RED indian !!! :) )

Thanks for the replies - I will keep an eye on things and see how the stomach fares - am just getting to a point where I feel the meds may be having some impact on controlling the partials and I am learning to tolerate them so I would hate to have to start over. I wouldn't be embarrassed Dr. about which drugs are processed by the liver thing - I couldn't even point to where the liver should be and certainly could not remember the names of the 8 million drugs that are out there. I use Keppra only because I can't spell the real name!!!

Epilepsy is a strange diagnosis and it is very hard to wrap your head around all of the ways it impacts on your life.
