Raised Blood Levels

I had a blood test, Monday I think, and the GP's secretary has telephoned saying I have raised blood levels - not sure what she means exactly. I have to make an appointment to have a fasting blood test tomorrow.

Any ideas?

could mean that the level of meds is on the high side...because they can only take it up so high and then it becomes dangerous for other organs....

but thats just a could be....

Hi, Nicholas.

I can only assume they're trying to figure out why your meds are not within a certain level in your blood. Each one has to be in a normal range or problems crop up. Have you noticed any side effects being stronger lately than normal?

When you go in tomorrow, ask them which one is high and what the normal range should be.

Why do you need a fasting blood draw?
Could the "elevated levels" be a reference to blood suger?

can you just call her back and ask what she meant when she told you that? I sure would. Then you won't have to spend any extra time and energy trying to figure out what is going on. Fingers and toes crossed. I would do my eyes too, but that can lead to bad things....

I'm on Atorvastatin 80mg at night since my heart attack in 2008 but I had a blood test for this not long ago and the doctor was not worried. Could be my sugar levels, nathaniel - I don't know. The phone number she called from shows up as unknown number so I couldn't call her back. Not to worry - will keep you all informed. Blood clinic open 8.30 in the morn- will make appt. to have fasting blood test - might stop eating from 9pm tonight just in case they can fit me in tomorrow :)

Whenever I have Dilantin blood levels checked I insist on the nurse telling me the exact level - not just whether it's high, low or normal. I've kept track of my levels for 10+ years, how I was feeling, if it was considered high and any changes made.

I was told that even though there is a therapeutic range, everyone is different in exactly how much they need in their system. What is normal for some people is low for me. Now that I have a history of my levels I can look back and determine what I think is best for me. My doctor is very willing to discuss any medication changes with me.

Before I started asking the details I always felt in the dark about my medicine.
Now I feel much more empowered - I have a control over my epilepsy rather than just E having control over me.

I believe meds can increase insulin levels, as can stress, over work etc
An insulin dump can cause a lot if havoc in the system. Do a google search >

I'm on Bisoprolol am/pm and Quetiapine - both meds can increase sugar levels
