Rashes?

I know one of the major side effects comes from a rash gained while taking Lamictal so I did go to the Doctor as soon as I developed one I couldn't explain.

I was informed (after being told 'Um, I've got to go check something I'll be RIGHT back!' by a nervous looking doctor) that it's just contact dermatitis, to use hydrocortozone and some OTC allergy meds.

So I know it's not Lamictal Rash, but I can't get over the fear associated with having any sort of rash while on my meds. Anyone else have an issue like this where they are anxious or am I just a horrible worrier?

Well, if it gets worse then a rash in like a week, definitely be worried. But if it's just a mild one, itchy... it might be nothing more then a simple allergic reaction. I didn't get any worse then a rash when on some of my anti-seizure meds. And when I was taken off of them because they didn't work for me, the rach just went away. There wasn't any residual rash or scarring from the rash.

Hi Sam,

Our daughter's neuro told her that the rash you get with Lamictal can actually turn into like a burn. He said its rare, but thats why they watch for the rash.

Some folks have an allergic reaction to Lamictal that can be treated with OTC meds -- it's no big deal aside from the discomfort and annoyance. It's not the same as The Rash (also known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome) which can also be caused by Lamictal, and which is very dangerous. That's why it's important to get the rash checked out quickly, and to keep an eye on it. A good doc/dermatologist should be able to distinguish the two, but if you're not sure, it never hurts to be extra careful and check in with the doc as needed.
